General Scroll Saw Talk / Gnome Question
« on: June 22, 2021, 04:25:42 pm »
Folks I want to scroll Steve's Gnome set.  I want to look at an example that Steve posted that a reader had sent in to him showing how they had painted their set.  Anyone know which of Steve's posts that was shown in?  Thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide.  Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas

Thanks Roy for making me feel a little bit like a kid again at 76.  I have to use an electric scooter to get around but the mind is still pretty sharp - just don't send me to fetch 3 things!  I agree that it appears we are losing many of the upcoming generation to their electronic toys.  We need to create opportunities to expose these youngsters to our crafts.  Regards > GLC in Cypress,

Patrick, glad to see you moved to a place where you could stretch out and get a little woodworking done.  The challenge in todays environment is to find wood for our shops that is affordable!  You might investigate cabinet shops etc. for their drops.  Scrollers can do many things with smaller pieces of stock.

I don't know what a round trip ticket would have cost Seyco, but it might have been a good investment to avoid all of this bad press.  Just thinking...

General Scroll Saw Talk / A Day of Steves

Today our host, Steve Good, mentioned a project designed by Steve Carmichael.  Steve's Plans for his stand for his Dewalt scroll saw.  I have built this stand using the plans from Mr. Carmichael.  They are good plans and provide an excellent stand for your saw.  Enjoy your scrolling.  Practice may not always make perfect - but it will make you better.      Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas

Good point Norm.  I haven't seen Bob Brokaw's name pop up in a while nor do I know if he has hands on experience with the Seyco design.  However, I would certainly concur that I would consider him an expert among experts in the world of scroll saw mechanisms.

Well Coffeepot I want to offer my apology as it seems that you thought my observation was unkind, judgemental and snippy.  My observation was intended to note that Steve is a curious type of fellow who seems to try out a variety of different tools including "Google Memo".  I sincerely doubt that that he anticipated that this decision would disappoint some who may have strong feelings about one Mega company or another.  To each his or her own way.  Peace be with you.  GLC in Cypress, Texas

Congrats on finding an inexpensive hobby that you physically perform and enjoy without even leaving the house.  You have picked a winner and can usually find many helpful folks that can help you learn.  See if you can locate a woodworking group with scrollers.  Hands on help is immensely helpful.  Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas.
