Welcome to Steve's forum "Coach".  You seem like a prime candidate for the world of scrolling.  You seem to have a little spare time for a new hobby, curiosity & appreciation of what you can do with your hands.  You may already be hooked.  Enjoy what you learn and appreciate the simplest of accomplishments.  I would suggest Steve's videos on Youtube as well as others such as the Artisan Pirate.  Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas

Computer questions / Re: Inkscape swirl initial pattern question
« on: July 18, 2020, 10:24:01 am »
Alas, I also struggle w/ Inkscape.  I have determined that Inkscape seems to require more determination to learn than I have given, so far.  Try Youtube videos teaching Inkscape, with the "union" command.  There are folks there that teach this subject to share their expertise in Inkscape.  Steve does not claim such expertise in Inkscape.  Also you might try looking into Facebook "groups" targeting Inkscape.  Have a great day.  Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: wall hanging
« on: July 08, 2020, 12:21:16 pm »
Steve and many others are fond of using a keyhole slot for hangers if the board touching the wall is 1/2" or thicker.  If the back touching the wall is less than 1/2' thick, I would suggest using one of the many available hangers that bond with an adhesive to your piece.  I am attaching a link to a video that Steve did on the topic of keyholes for your reference.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Need some Ideas

Mimi, I hope you found a solution to your earlier inquiry.  You certainly had a lot of "lookers" to your inquiry, recommendations - not so many.  I was unsure of the organization of which you spoke also.  Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas

Ha, I feel you pain.  I don't know how many times I wished I has a "scroll saw wizard" looking over my shoulder while I was scrolling offering suggestions and and correcting my bad habits.

Don, thanks for the tip to use guide lines for alignment in Inkscape.  I always make a point read your replies to questions in the blog as you usually provide clever suggestions.

Rom, welcome to Steve's forum.  You will find many talented folks here who willingly share their knowledge.  The experience level runs from none to many years of experience.  Scrolling Gives all of us pleasure and something dwell on beyond the issues that crowd our everyday lives.  If we had been born in an earlier time we could have become whittlers.  Regards > GLC in Cypress, Texas

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: MDF

Not a Guru, but prudent.  In the piece provided by Spirithorse it noted "a tight-fitting dust mask is essential" which precludes most facial hair for a tight fit - if applicable.  In the vernacular of the day I would highly recommend social distancing and not allow mdf within 6 ' of you or your shop.  If it's not there it can't hurt you or your family.
