Pattern Requests. / 1955 Studebaker E7 1/2 Ton Pickup
« on: June 10, 2013, 09:14:40 am »
I need a pattern for a 1955 Studebaker E7 1/2 Ton Pickup. I went to an antique car show this weekend and sold some scrollwork of antique cars and trucks. One customer wanted a framed scroll piece of his 1955 Studebaker pickup. He did not have it with him so I cannot post a photo of it. He said as long as it was the same model and year it would be ok. I have searched the web for a pattern but with no success. So, if anyone has seen one or has one , please let me know. Also, I found a photo on line, but, it is not at a very good angle.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Hegner Multmax 18-V
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:38:09 am »
I don't know if this is the right category for this information, but, I will pass this on to those who may be in the market for a scroll saw. Listed on Craigslist in Garland, Texas is a  Hegner Multimax 18-V. It first was listed for $495.00, but now ad says make offer. It does include a stand and ad says it was rarely used. If you live near Dallas, Texas, it may be worth your time to check it out. I have an EX21 and was looking for second saw, but, wife says you can only run one saw at a time!??

Brag Forum / Team Ropers
« on: May 17, 2013, 01:29:35 pm »
Ok, here are two team ropers that EIEIO and Mahendra were so nice to make patterns for me. I added the backer so the ropes would be more stable. Please excuse my picture taking and also I plan to add a finish.

General Scroll Saw Talk / BLO and Mineral Spirits
« on: May 14, 2013, 09:02:03 am »
I know the subject of BLO/Mineral Spirits has been discussed many times, but, I have a couple of questions. I have never used either product, but, went to Home Depot and purchased a gallon of each. The oil is boiled and the spirits is odorless. After mixing, I felt the mixture was still too thick for my liking and thought the mineral spirits was strange.( looked like milk, even after shaking, is this right?). I was really pleased with how my wood looked, but, still did not like the thickness. I was wandering if the spirits were bad? I have never used it before, just paint thinner instead. How much would it effect the results of the BLO if I added more spirits or should I just use it as is? The problem I have with the thickness is getting it out of fret work areas, etc. Since I have never used either of these products, I would appreciate feedback from those who use this mixture.

I noticed on the pattern files that any category with a + will not download. Does this mean maintenance on that file or is it my computer?

Pattern Requests. / Eiffel Tower
« on: April 18, 2013, 05:40:07 pm »
I am searching for a, I guess a 3D effect, stand alone eiffel tower pattern of approximately 10" tall. I really don't know how to explain what I need in specific terms?! It would simply be an eiffel tower model I guess. I live in Paris, Texas, and the city has an structure modeled after the eiffel tower next to the civic center. It has a cowboy hat on top. I have been asked to make a wooden replica of this tower and would place a small doll hat on the top. I have found portrait type patterns but cannot figure out how to make a it 4 sided. Any help and advice would be appreciated.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Problem With Blade Tension
« on: April 02, 2013, 10:03:15 am »
I am having blade tension problems with my Ex 21 and I hate to call Ray if it is not a machine problem. I am hoping it is something I can fix myself. I use FD blades and I wipe the blade ends with 220 grit paper before installing. I fine tune the tension with the knob at back and start cutting. But, in just a few moments, the tension has slacked a little, so , I fine tune again. I have just replaced the top blade holder and tension lever, and new set screws and thumb screws,so, it should be ok. Any ideas? I am hoping it is just a simple correction that I am overlooking.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Staining Baltic Birch
« on: March 23, 2013, 10:08:39 pm »
I admit to know hardly anything about finishing wood. I have made some crosses out of 3/4" Baltic Birch and was wanting to stain them with dark walnut stain. (oil based). It looked terrible, with blotches and areas that hardly stained and areas that were too dark. I thought I had read where you should sand and seal the wood before staining. I use a spray shellac and a polyurathane spray for finishing. Should I spray a light coat of shellac before staining? I usually just finish with lemon oil and shellac, but a customer wants them stained with walnut. HELP PLEASE!

The Coffee Shop / Scroll Saw Withdrawls
« on: March 08, 2013, 07:36:54 pm »
I am having scroll saw withdrawls! My Ex 21 broke this morning; the white tension lever ceased to stay up. I called Ray @ Seyco and he is sending me a new one; should arrive Tuesday. I felt lost without my saw so my wife said we could catch up on other things around the place to keep my mine busy. So, I took down about 200 ft of fencing, pulled up all the posts, and then picked up tree limbs and branches in the yard and part of the pasture! No telling what she has planned for tomorrow!? That lever better get here by Tuesday before she kills me! I need a "fix" already; starting to shake and getting nervous. Yep, scrolling is an addiction! HELP!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Red Spot on Stained Wood
« on: March 07, 2013, 09:23:45 am »
I don't know if this is the place on the forum to discuss this. If not Mr. Moderator, please put in correct topic. I have noticed on more than one occassion that red spots appear on some stained wood. I am using Miniwax stain, dark walnut, on clear pine. After the stain dries, I see a red spot often. Is this related to the stain or the wood? I wipe the stain on with a cloth and sometimes dip the project and then wipe the excess. Hope this makes sense; don't know how else to explain what is happening. I know a customer noticed it yesterday on a cross she purchased and I had to use a marks-a lot to cover the red spot.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Blade Slippage on EX21 Solved
« on: February 28, 2013, 05:29:14 pm »
Well, after about 9 months of scrolling on my EX21, I noticed my blade tension was not holding. The blade wasn't coming out, just the tension was decreasing. I went by and talked to Ray @Seyco and he said the set screw and the thumb screw of the blade holder were worn out. (I took them for him to evaluate just in case). He was right, no problems now. FYI, he said if I did a lot of scrolling. the pair should be changed regularly, about every four months or even sooner; depending on the volume of dust made. He did say they could be taken out and very lightly rubbed with sand paper as long as they were flat. He suggested screwing into a flat piece of wood with only about the 1/64 or less exposed to the sanding belt. But, in my case it was too late, so I had to replace them.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Gluing Two Boards Together
« on: February 26, 2013, 09:47:06 am »
Ok guys, I need your help and advice! I have only been working with wood for about 10 months and have done all my scrolling with patterns that will fit the wood. Now, I have a request to make a plaque for an large elk rack. Of course, I have to keep the cost down, so, I will be using 3/4" x 12"  pine. I don't know the grade, but, it is very smooth and has no knots, but, cost $28.00/8ft. Now, the pattern is 15" x 19" so that means I will need to glue two pieces together. I have never done this, but have goggled it and read a lot of different ways of doing this. I would use 3/4" baltic birch which can be purchased in 5' x 5' pieces, but I have to put a routed edge around it. Now, please give me yall's advice and techniques on this. For instance, how much glue, preparation, etc.,etc. Thanks yall!
