General Scroll Saw Talk / Air Compressor Opinions
« on: November 28, 2013, 12:08:33 pm »
I need to purchase an air compressor for my small woodshop. I have a large one in my barn/shop, but I was thinking about purchasing a small compressor just to blow dust from my scroll pieces after sanding. Right now I am just using a fine soft brush. I realize it would be loud while filling, but, maybe ya'll may have ideas on this and I am very open minded. I even thought about putting it outside on my porch and drilling a hole in the wall to run the hose. Anyway, I do not want to spend money on a piece of crap that will not last, yet, I don't need an expensive one just for blowing dust.

Pattern Requests. / Request For Boy Scout Ornament
« on: November 25, 2013, 09:35:21 am »
I have a special request for a tree ornament that has the Boy Scouts emblem and the words "Christmas In Paris". If any of you pattern designers could do this, I would appreciate it and if you want to PM me to discuss this, please do so.
The Boy Scouts sponsored our last craft show, and the scouts were a great help  setting up and taking down booths and even carrying to our vehicles. The show director wanted to give each scout an ornament and ask me to make some if possible. I am not very good designing or making patterns.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Craft Show a Success!
« on: November 24, 2013, 08:29:33 pm »
Just want to let you fellow scrollers know that people are still willing to spend money for Christmas on hand crafted items instead of massed machine products. My wife and I began the day very hesitate about selling anything, especially since it was cold and rainy. We were inside, but, the weather was crappy! Well, they opened the doors at 9:00 am and man were we surprised! I sold out of some ornaments in about an hour (took about a dozen each of 30 different ornaments). We sold several crosses and Christmas stand alone figures such as snowmen, sleighs and reindeer, and manger scenes. By the end of the day at 3:30 pm we were ready to shut down; happy, bit tired! The final count was $965.00. The negative side is I have another show in two weeks and have to replace items sold!  But, I am very, very, happy to discover a lot of folks still have interest in items produced by the skills of a person and not machine. I also received about 6 custom orders and just about every buyer requested a card and wanted information about our next show. This is very encouraging to me and my wife and hope it brings the same to you fellow scrollers.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Received My Ornaments!!
« on: November 19, 2013, 10:41:16 am »
I received my ornaments from Mike Edmonds and they are beautiful! Great job of cutting Mike. How do you finish these? Do you sand the wood before cutting? I use Baltic Birch from Ocooch and sand only the fuzzies on the back.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Dust Port On New EX21
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:38:10 am »
Does anyone on this forum have the new EX21 with the dust port? I do not like the plastic shroud under the blade hole because it seems small pieces of fret cuts would clog up the air flow. I was thinking of just removing the dust port and plastic and, oh, also the lower blade guard. To be honest, I have not even tried it yet, but, was wanting to get the saw ready before positioning it in my shop. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am going to call Ray @ Seyco Monday and get his advice, but, was just curious if anyone had the new saw with the dust port and had experienced the performance.

General Scroll Saw Talk / New Ex21K
« on: November 09, 2013, 09:21:39 am »
Well, I stopped by Seyco yesterday to see if Ray had a used saw I could use for a backup. I have gotten so busy and cannot afford to have a breakdown and wait on parts or repairs. He had a few older models he had rebuilt, but, I made the mistake of asking about the new model and the special pricing, so, yes, I walked out with a new one! Now, going to put it together this morning and make some new dust with a new saw!
Of course my wife accused me of planning this the whole time! LOL!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Craft Show Disaster
« on: October 27, 2013, 10:20:37 am »
Well, the largest craft show of the year for me was a complete disaster. There were over a hundred vendors setting up Friday night and officials expected over 10,000 visitors, so we were pretty excited to get there early Saturday morning at 6:oo am to get my scroll work out of the transport bins onto the display racks and tables. I had put my canopy and grid wire and tables up Friday night, so we would not be rushed Saturday morning. We could relax and drink coffee and visit with fellow vendors before the rush began at 9:oo am. Well, about 8:30 we saw a few raindrops and started getting nervous, but, officials assured us that according to the weather center, we should only see a few light showers. Well, all of a sudden, it began raining and the wind got up and lightening and thunder began and instead of just lasting a few minutes, it got worse and worse. The rain blew inside the canopy so hard and so fast, everything got wet! We finally got everything packed and took the canopy down in driving rain and wind, literally threw it all into the truck and took off! When we got home and began unloading the totes, we saw just about every piece had gotten wet. So, we spent all day and night drying off and inspecting every item. I will have to repair just a few pieces, so, I can be thankful for that! Now, to get ready for the last show of the year in early December, which will be inside! I think if I continue selling at craft show, I am going to invest in a rain proof four sided tent like structure. Plus, I passed up smaller shows to do this large show. Oh well, I still have the passion for scrolling and have a lot of Christmas gifts on hand now to pass to family and friends! LOL!!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Great Service @ Seyco
« on: October 13, 2013, 09:32:47 am »
Earlier this week my bottom blade holder on my EX21 failed. Seems the thumb screw hole had worn out. I called Ray @ Seyco after hours and explained the situation to him. ( I had just received a large order from one of my retail stores who sells my work and they wanted it soon to have for the Christmas season). I received the parts two days later! And, Ray suggested mailing him the old blade holder and he would repair it and mail it back to me to use for a backup. Great Service!!

Pattern Requests. / Log House Pattern
« on: September 23, 2013, 09:40:06 am »
A friend of mine has requested a wall hanger of a log house or a scenic plaque with a log house. It will have to be fret work since I don't do intarsia. I have searched the web and have found small log cabins, but, he wants a log house. I know this is unusual but I told him I would try to find a pattern. I suppose something framed would also be ok.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Glass In Portrait Frames?
« on: September 11, 2013, 09:08:50 am »
This subject has probably been discussed before, but, when you get a certain age, one tends to forget more often than not! LOL I love cutting portraits of Native American and western subjects and I have been using frames with glass. What do ya'll think? Does the glass take away from the rustic presentation or does it help preserve the wood and add to the picture? I use 1/8" BB with a black poster paper for backing and glue brown rope around the frames to add to the rustic feature. I am just wandering if the glass takes away the rustic feature? Thanks in advance for your input.

Brag Forum / Paris, Texas Eiffel Tower
« on: August 27, 2013, 07:15:17 pm »
Here is my Paris, Texas Eiffel Tower without the hat on top. Haven't decided to put the red hat on top because I just do not like the red hat! LOL ! Anyway, here is the tower cut to the pattern that EIEIO made for me! Thank you Ray for the pattern and instructions! Only trouble I had was sanding the 45 deg. bevel on the 3rd tier, but, all worked well.

Pattern Requests. / 1941 chevrolet club coupe
« on: July 28, 2013, 06:34:34 pm »
I need a pattern of a 1941 Chevrolet club coupe. The fellow I made the 1955 Studebaker pickup for is now requesting this also. Help from you pattern makers would be greatly appreciated and I will display it after cutting and framing. I have searched the web and found plenty of images but no scroll saw pattern. It is not a convertible and is not kustom he said; just a stock 1941 Chevrolet club coupe.

Thank ya'll,

General Scroll Saw Talk / Mitre Saw Blade Selection
« on: July 22, 2013, 05:34:07 pm »
I have been having problems using a #60 blade on my 10" mitre saw when cutting 1/4 or less material. The wood tends to have rough edges, and wanting to splinter out. What blade is best? I don't want to change blades every time I change thickness, so what would be the best overall blade on 1/8 to 3/4" wood?
