Heres a couple of ideas - oft these pics from overstock
I use to be a woodshop teacher years ago -and ive made countless Kalimbas
use to use old metal leaf rake metal spokes ( probably find them in the trash on garbage days )
and as an experiment i made a Zylophone ( kinda like this one )
one nice thing about kalimbas is that by leghtening the metal spoke you change the tone ,
and you can use as many spokes as you want -for more notes .
the one in the you tube video didnt sound that good to my ears -
I think the garden rake spokes work better !

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Fair Use
« on: March 20, 2014, 07:34:59 pm »
something to consider :

You could work on your own designs ( not as hard as you think )
would not conflict with any copyright -its also allot of fun to be the originator
of a piece of work !

get yourself a small engineering square - their 2 or 2-1/2 inches( harbor freight or Grizzly )
think i picked mine up at a wood show for a bout 4-5 bucks . helps every time
your trying to square up the blade with the table .
Ive owned a few of those Dewalt saws - their great machines for the money .
you will love that saw !

I buy 8.5 x 11 sticker sheets you can print on your computer. ( laser are cheaper than inkjet ones and they work about the same )
they come off easy and leave no residue - if you forget them and leave them on your wood for a while
sometimes you can have a problem -but using an old hairdryer and warming them up,
they come off real quick and clean ...
I took a dowel, hammered in a finishing nail , ground off the head
so i could peal away the sticker if i got it to hot -does the trick !

Computer questions / Re: Other firefox user having issues?
« on: March 20, 2014, 06:45:03 pm »
not exactly sure why -sometimes the updates need updates .
I love firefox , but its not perfect .
maybe keep it on your computer for a while- could repair itself with another update .

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Stools or chairs for SS
« on: March 14, 2014, 04:08:09 pm »
I bought a couple of Drafting chairs some time back -
one even has lumbar support ( for long scroll excursions )
for taller saws their a necessity -their in the neighborhood of 2-3 hundred
but worth it if you do alot of scrolling -the wheels on the bottom of the chair make it easy to get up to the saw
and make it a bit more comfortable --
Ieven found a older model at our salvation army store for like 8 bucks ( but with no wheels )
use it at my work bench -

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Good Craft Show Canopy
« on: March 14, 2014, 04:00:50 pm »
Greetings -I'm new here -but my wife and myself have been doing
Art festivals for the past 29 years full time - we've used a couple in that time period
and i have a few thoughts for you .If your serious and are going to be doing alot of shows
this year and in the future you might want to check out the " Showoff " they start at about a grand
-sounds like alot be we own 3 of them and they have gone threw literally thousands of shows
including a few near wind storm catastrophies ( shearing winds ) they have aluminum parts to keep down the weight.
the worst that weve ever have had happen is that a couple of corners snapped about 15 years ago in a severe storm .
Every other canopy was destroyed - except ours and another venders showoff .

The Easy ups are OK for the ocassional Crafter-Artist -but they wear out after a time .
True you can always buy another one- because their inexspensive , but ive know a couple of Artists
that have done that 3 or 4 times and they still dont have a canopy of the quality of our showoff .( but they've spent the same amount as us )
again not for everybody and if you only do a couple of local shows a year , and you bring some plastic sheeting
( for incliment weather -with some spring clamps ) you should be OK .
not to cause a huff -but doing something right the first time , is always cheaper in the long run .
Tony
