General Scroll Saw Talk / Found an older RBI 220 from the 90's
« on: October 30, 2015, 12:07:23 pm »
I was at one of our art shows , and a fellow woodworker i know
told me he had an older RBI from the early 1990's that only had about 30 hours
of cut time on it - very reasonably - checked it out and it had very little or no wear on it -
not crazy about the nylon gears on the bottom side -but they looked perfect .
I hot rodded it a bit with a very thin plexiglass top cover ( attached it with clear carpet tape )
Runs nice - i borrowed a 220 from RBI years ago when i was working on one of our books , but returned it
and was considering another as a back up saw -it cuts great -thou a bit more vibration than i like -
Nice to finally add one to my collection !
Been thinking about an excalibur in the near future - but im not a guy who buys made in China stuff -
hoping they come back to Canada -where they belong
( have heard the Newer Dewalts are not as good as the US made ones are ) a friend who has had a few over the past few years
told me to stay away from them- especially if you do alot of cutting like i do --

The RBI is going to be alot of fun -its a nice saw !

Ask Steve a question. / need parts for metal sand-o-flex
« on: December 04, 2014, 04:52:19 pm »
Hi Steve and fellow Scrollers !

I have several sand o flex sanders ( the old metal ones )
and I can get the brushes about any where -becasue they still make the light weight plastic
one- but the metal model was discontinued several years ago .
I need the 8 pc Face clip set  -part number 11027 ( merit company )
I know Saint -Grobien now owns the Merit company ( but they dont deal with small orders )

Anyone know where i can buy these - ?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Excalibur , Dewalt or Delta ?
« on: June 15, 2014, 05:15:28 pm »
OK - Im thinking about a back up saw -do alot of cutting and im trying to get some opinions
as to which would suit me better - ive heard some horror stories about the old Delta ( delta not making or suppling parts for the older model -worried about the new )
and I also know all three are simalar , and all three come from Taiwan ( at least i think they do -wasnt Excalibur a Canadian company ? )
which would be a better choice -curious about customer support , parts and warranty -- alot of companies out their dont know what that means.
would i pay more for the excalibur -yes if its twice the saw .
looking for dependability, and durability as well .

Thoughts ?
by the way -Happy Fathers Day !
