Call Advance3d Machinery.  They are US distributers for Hegners and good folks.

I had an old shop vac. hooked up to my Hegner, and killed it.  Tried another, killed it.  Bought a new one, killed it.  One month and over  $200 later I mounted an $8 hair dryer to the pole lamp for my saws to blow the sawdust away and it works just fine now, for six months.

Update:  I have finished making all I need  for my sales, through next year at this time. (based on previous years sales).   In addition, I have made over two hundred toys.  Now.... I have time...until June, to experiment with new, and different, projects.  I may make some band saw boxes, like I did in 2016 but have not decided on that... yet. (They sell well but I do not like to make them)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Scroll Saw Popularity....
« on: January 26, 2017, 06:37:59 pm »
I have had five scroll saws.  I still have three.  First, a Harbor Freight saw, two of them,... crap!  Then a De Walt.  It  lasted twenty months and died.  I wised up in 2008  and bought the best Hegner saw.  Polymax-3.  Not sure if it would last so I bought a used Hegner (25" multimax-3) as a back-up.  It was made in 1986 and still works well and parts are still available for it.  I found a 1988 Jet -15"  for $15 and it has become my" go to" saw.  I use the Polymax for doing all my inlays.
I use my scroll saws a lot.  Most every day.  I spend 40 hours a week in my workshop (life is good)  All these three saws have induction motors.  The three that I wore out quickly had universal motors (also called DC motors , or brushed motors).  The De Walt was smooth running and easy to use.  Too bad it was not durable.

I made 150 of the t-rex dinosaurs this past week.  Our club gives them away to local children's hospitals so 100 of them will go there and the rest I will try to sell this summer at the venues I attend.  A very popular item.

To cut thicker woods well, the feed rate you use should be quite slow.  If not you can get a crooked or bowed cut with most any scroll saw..

I agree with what Jim said.  I used my pneumatic nail gun  to put 2" nails into a 3/4" plywood board to make  one.  I have six of them now.

Assuming the blade is not installed up-side-down you may want to try a polar blade that has no reverse teeth on it.  I have a Hegner and do not have this problem with polar blades. (#5)

Ask Steve a question. / Re: wood types and speed of Scrollsaw
« on: January 11, 2017, 09:35:48 pm »
I cut 3/4" thick wood.  Both hard and soft woods. I have single speed saws and it works fine.  If I were to ever try doing fretwork on thin stock I think I would like to slow the saw down for that.  In my experience slower speeds are useful for better control.  As I cut thicker wood (3/4") the feed rate is slow... so saw  motor speed is not an issue for me.  I mostly do double bevel inlay and making toys.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: Anyone have a mini 4" table saw?
« on: January 01, 2017, 09:53:42 am »
I looked at the Harbor freight small miter saw on their website and noticed it does not do compound cuts,  I am looking for a small double compound cutting miter saw.  All I can find are single bevel.  I would like to have a small double compound saw to make crosses with.  I use my Bosch 12" saw and it seems dangerous to use it on such small pieces.   Any suggestions?

I have made a few, post season, sales lately so I have actually surpassed last years gross sales by a little.  And I still have a week to go this year.  If I put more effort into selling I think I could sell more than I do. Where is the fun in that?
I have started in on making next years stock and it looks like, if I work at a moderate pace, I will be ready for next year 100% in a week!
In fact, I started in on making toys for donation to the local hospitals today.  So much time and so little to do.  Life is good.

Every year I introduce new items or designs and drop slow sellers.  Same as Toneman.  My main reason for this  is the need to use less display area at the sales I attend.

Very nice box.  I like the idea of using plywood for the ribbon.
