Scrapbook Hardware
« on: April 19, 2012, 12:39:16 pm »
I recently made a scrapbook (I'll try to get a picture posted in the gallery in a bit)
Overall I learned alot and have some ideas about the next one I am going to make. But I ran in to a slight problem I am hoping someone can help me with.
To hold the album together I used scrapbook extention posts, they work really well and are easy to find. The cover was hinged using "cute" hinges I found at Menards. The problem for me is that the metals don't match the extention posts are bright silver and the hinges are brass. I looked breifly and couldn't find brass extention posts or silver hinges.
Am I missing something? A few of you have made books, what did you do? Am I the only one who cares about the mis-matched metals?

Katie....

Did you try Michael's?

I have used their stock scrapbook blanks and they come complete with the hardware...nothing fancy just simple brass hinges and sull brass binder posts.

I would also check the 'scrapbooking' specialty stores.
I know you are not in a 'major' market so you may have to go online.
Try a search for scrapbooking supplies. I know there are tons of places that cater to that particular hobby.

I've found that it is pretty difficult to find small decorative hinges in a silver sheen. They are usually almost always brass. But you may be able to find some posts here..

Be sure and let us know what you were able to find.

Everyone who has seen the scrapbook I made for my S.O. has been interested and I have now been commissioned to do two others. (last two in my stock)
If I can find a source for the hardware (posts and hinges) it will be great and I won't have to buy the ready made covers at Michael's and can save a few bucks!

I'll post mine in the gallery later tonight. The price is per 100 posts in the link, I think.
