My latest intarsia piece
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:05:58 am »
I thought I had posted a picture of this piece but cannot find it in the older posts. Any way here it is. It was a gift to my self, looking forward to retirement in two years. I still think I have already posted it   >:(.

I agree with you Paul, very nice. I would love to have a go, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Paul & Keefie, another good place to start is:  Intarsia.net  You'll find a simple free pattern of a Teddy Bear, with full step by step, instructions.  I've used it in a couple of classes I've taught with much success.

Thanks folks. This piece is a pattern from JG Roberts, It was featured in one of the WWSC magazines some time ago. For those of you who have not tried intarsia and would like to should definately give it a go. My first pieces were  3 piece dolphin, I cut them from pine and stained the pieces . I used to give them to kids at school who had low self esteem. Of course the kid had to listen to my philosophy on life and I used the dolphin as a way to get my point across. I remember I gave one to a little guy but his dog ate it on him and he asked me for another. I digress.

My biggest challenge is trying to decide, "what will be my next intarsia piece". Before I start a piece of intarsia I have a recipient in mind and I try to create a piece suited to that person.

I think my next piece will be for my son. He works in the Alberta Tar Sands. Does anyone have a pattern of anything related to oil recovery or production. This is what I am thinking of doing for him. Thanks again. ;)

GrandPa "Paul" and Keefie, take the plunge, I know you will totally enjoy the experience.
