People ask why?

Read to the bottom some scary statistics.
Gabby

PEOPLE ASK WHY?

Why Carry a Gun?

My old grandpa said to me 'Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and
Usually it's when he becomes too old to take an a$$ whoopin.'
I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron.
Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an a$$ whoopin'.....author unknown (but obviously brilliant)

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
---- ------------- -------------

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
-----------------------------

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WW II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, please spread this anti gun-control message to all of your friends.

The purpose of fighting is to win.
There is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.
The final weapon is the brain.
All else is supplemental.

SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!
SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.
SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!

IT'S A NO BRAINER!
DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.

I'm a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment!
If you are too, please forward.

To steal, oops, I mean "borrow", your line, "yer darn tootin'".

There are some really great lines.
I've often wondered why there are so many people who are so vociferously anti-gun. If you don't want one, if they make you uncomforable, then stay away from them. Nobody is trying to force you to own/use/carry one. I guess I have a different "why?" for all those people who ask the "whys" in your quote.

Why does it bother you so much that I choose to exercise my right to have a gun?

Interesting reading Gabby I'm neither pro or anti gun but agree guns aren't bad it's the people using them.Living in Scotland we have very strict gun control, only criminals can get them. Actually knife crime here is much bigger and you can be charged with carrying an offensive weapon if you have a knife of any description on you without a good reason. In fact if someone breaks into your house and you the householder injuries the criminal you could be charged with assault. Thankfully this appears to be changing as this government supports the right to defend your property with reasonable force ( whatever that means ). Personnally I think you should be allowed to shoot them, assuming I could get a gun of course, but until then a baseball bat will have to do.

Take guns away from law abiding citizens and only criminals will have guns.  When I get back to work I am getting a handgun and my concealed carry permit.

True statements. Take arms away from the people and watch the government lose fear of the population it was designed to protect.

All should have the right to defend thier own. Without this ability, we would all be condemed to a life of fear and servitude.

My thoughts excatly. I am a retired Illinois Correctional Officer. When I retired in 1995  I wanted to buy a hand gun for my wife and myself. I thought "No, I don't go anywhere I need one." Then it dawned on me that if my wife and I got to McDonals who knows what kind of crazey will come in there shooting.
We live 100 miles from Chicago and former mayer Daliey for years bought back guns from people of the city. In down town Chicago where guns are not alowed shootings are very high. Before Daley retired he said, "I don't understand why there are so many shootings in Chicago." I can tell him he disarmed his citizens. I think Illinois is the only state left with out concelled carry. We are fihgting to change that.
The post mentioned "police". I for one do not trust the police (and me being a retired correctional officer). Cops don't serve and protect anymore, they are more interested in their promotion and polical standing. One cop told my daughter, "I am not your friend, I am a cop." This is from a do nothing small Illionis town.
Sorry about the rant and misspellings....

Gary,
Your post covers it pretty well, I've seen too many videos of over reacting police in recent times, coming down on legally carrying citizens. Or approaching stopped cars with guns drawn for a traffic violation.
They are taking CYA to extremes.
Sure I know a cops job is dangerous, and they should take precautions to protect themselves.
I learned to call in the license plate number and my location before getting out of my patrol car, if I felt there was reason to draw my weapon, I would have notified dispatch to roll backup. In those days we didn't have radios hung on our belts with a mike on the shoulder like they do today and all the cars were one man units with no cage for the back seat. (our stupid Chief of Police felt it would send the wrong message to the citizens of our fair city!)
Perhaps you have seen the video of the young woman testifying about her parents being killed in a restaurant, and her pistol being locked in her car. I had a copy I was going to link here but I can't find it right now. May have lost it in the computer crash. If you have a link to it please post it here. Everyone should hear her story!

I'm NOT sorry about my rant. We should be able to protect our loved ones and ourselves anytime anywhere! What part of "Shall not be infringed." Don't they understand?
For you folks living in other parts of the world and satisfied with leaving it to your government to protect you GOOD LUCK with that, I hope you never encounter someone who doesn't care about your rights and property, but don't try to sell it to me, I've seen too many things in my life to believe in the tooth fairy or Santa Clause.

Your right, Gabby. When I was a kid the police watched over us and were really helpful. Some of them came to our scout meetings and/or ball games and helped. I know police have very dangerious jobs. I am glad I was in Corrections. That was bad enough.

I remember the video you are talking about. I can't find it either. I sent it around when it came out. The woman know what she was talking about, but as usual they didn't listen to her.

Gun Control defined:

The theory that people who are willing to ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder

will obey a law which prohibits them from owning a firearm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
             A few 1 liners I've collected:

A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

Gun control is not about guns; it?s about control.

If guns cause crime, then cameras cause pornography.

Free men should not have to ask permission to bear arms.

If you don?t know your rights you don?t have any.

The United States Constitution ? 1791. All Rights Reserved.

The second amendment is in place in case they ignore the others.

Guns only have two enemies: rust and liberals.

Know guns, know peace and safety. No guns, no peace nor safety.

Peace through superior firepower.

Call 911: Government sponsored Dial-a-Prayer.

Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of hardware.

Criminals love gun control ? it makes their jobs easier and safer.

Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.

You only have the rights you are willing to fight for.

The pen is mightier than the sword ? unless you are in a swordfight!

Those who live by the sword have a fighting chance.

Blaming a gun for crime is like blaming a fork for Rosie O?Donnell being FAT!

Firearm safety ? it?s a matter for education, not legislation.

The day they want my guns they?ll have to bring theirs.

An armed society is a polite society.

Shooting. The only sport endorsed by the founding fathers.

My wife and my gun: ?til death do us part.

When they come for your guns, give them the ammo first!

If you are free to be a liberal ? thank a man with a gun!

Guns are smart enough. We need smarter politicians.

Gun control... It?s not a new idea... Just a bad one!

  And one of my favorites--

When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away...!!!!

Law Enforcement changes with the times.   Officers are now required to have a 4 yr. degree.  When officers are trained and working the cloud of liability follows them and restricts flexibility.  The space between Us against them and the community widens.  More officers do not live in the community in which they work so that lessens the amount of commitment.  The We's has been taken out and replaced with I's and training is focused on survival and avoiding the worst scenario.
Wisconsin is now looking at changing the retirement age of officers to age 62.  They re going to have to change from dounuts to being all vegetarians.  Now in Wisconsin with the crunch they have eliminated all the desk jobs.  Burn out is a big consideration.  Because of the negativity of the occupation their has to be a balance.  Yin and Yang.  They will have to teach them scroll sawing.  I tell new officers increase your creativity and self expression don't wear the uniform to bed. The older I get I realize that balance has to be shared everywhere in our life. Officers should work both days and nights. Its a difference of night and day.  Wow, inch by inch, slowly I turned.  Unwinding at the keyboard is contagious.
You can sterio type the action of the police also.  Policeman in Northern Wisconsin do not draw their guns on a traffic stop unless they get a hit on the car or operater.  Policeman in low income neighborhoods that encounter weapons daily approach a vehicle with weapon in hand.  Theres no need to fear cops.  They re the biggest gang in the world and their trained Killers.
Thats a play with words.  Thats like when I tell people I'm just a janitor but I'm also a retired trained killer.  I call it my smile remover.  It would have to be the right rare occasion with a select audience.
Theres a lot of scaring with the profession. My flashbacks are of bruises, cuts, phones ripped off walls, doors damaged, bodies of young and old with the stories, sexual assault, intoxication with alcohol and drugs, mental illness, suicides, family fights, bar fights, homocide, vehicle accidents neighborhood fueds.  The number one thing is paranoia.  I still sit with my back to the wall so I can see whats approaching and I don't hug corners when walking.
Guns are just great weapons because the distance factor. Your separated from the act.  Its not as personal and dissassocation
with evidence is greater.  Basicly anything in the hand can end life.  Pen, Rope, pills, poison,a glass,a rock, hammer and the list is endless.  When I think about it guns are specific to ending life whether in war, hunting or defense.  They also allow the perpetrator to protect himself by hiding behind objects and only exposing the arm and partial head.
