using silicone caulk for outdoor projects

Just watched this tv program on scrollsawing, they where making outdoor projects (signs, birdhouses).
What I found interesting was that they where using 50yr. clear silicone caulk to attach their scrollsawn letters, designs to their projects, also used it to attach the roof on the birdhouses they built.
Seems like a good idea for attaching items used out in the weather.

Ditto. Thanks for the link.
Watched the whole video and it was interesting for anyone first starting out in scrolling. (Scott needs to mention about stack cutting however!)

I must admit I have never seen 50yr silicone over here in UK before (but then I have not looked for it either) but I will have a look for it when I go to the DIY store next

hmm, I don't know if silicone is such a good glue. I have a frost-resistant wood glue that is working really fine. One can also use that to seal wood, just thin the glue with some water and you have a simple thin coating.

I was in the silicone business my whole career. It is correct to call it a caulk. It can be also used as a gluing agent but doesn't always adhere to the substrates well. The advantage it has is it is very long lasting. The UV rays don't degrade the silicone like they do with a typical organic glue. So there are places it works well and other places not so well. Use your best judgement.
