Local Woodworking Contest
« on: August 13, 2016, 05:06:42 am »
Here in Phoenix, one of our local wood stores is hosting a contest. It is for trays, platters, and trivets. I am looking to design a tray or platter using an inlay of maple (fall leaves). I am thinking of making them with padauk and yellow satin. Not sure how to make the platter or tray. If anyone has suggestions I am open to them. I am up for this challenge and have until November to enter it.

Troy how complicated you want to make this is going to be your limitations here.  You can make a platter easily enough.  I have drawn up a very simple one as a way of illustration -

Something like this can be easily modified for size and whatnot to make a serving platter.

I made a few like this. They are just a snack trays for party's but could be enlarged without much trouble.
I'm sure it is a Steve Good pattern.
You need to make yours larger and put your inlay in the bottom of course.

An ounce of responsablity is worth 10 pounds of state and fedral laws.
