Need help with a tough Portrait Pattern Please!

I have two pictures I need to see if you can convert to a pattern, the first is old and the lighting is tough with the background.  The second not as bad lighting but both old.

The first is of my aunt who just passed, the second is her and my mother on her wedding day.  I would like to try to cut one of them to give to my uncle.
Im still new at scrolling so too complicated a detail will be rough for me to cut.

Any help you can give me I would deeply appreciate it!

 I tried my hand at the first one. It's basic enough. I took the instructions EIEIO so graciously sent me.

Nice rendering Malistar. Very simple cutting as requested. You might run it through Inkscape Trace Bitmap one more time to smooth some of the rough edges, and maybe do the [Object][Fill&Stoke] just for practice. And add your name to the image somewhere so you can be tracked down later if needed.

Im a bit past simple, but Im no where near doing stuff like Charles Dearing does!  I want to take my time and do it right.

Hey Walter, this is what I came up with the second picture,sorry! tried getting the mirror details but I could not as to much to clean up. I hope you like it.
It is in PDF as JPG was ending up in a big file and to convert it to the sites requirement was making it
way to small.

Joleet! That is awesome! I tried for about an hour to make her hair anything but a blob of black but failed every time. That is a beautiful pattern!

On the second pic the outline is in red... Which program did you use to get the line and how can I change it to a Black Line??  My printer isnt doing a good job of showing the line and I would like to get as much of the details of the lines as possible when I cut this in the morning.

This was done in Inkscape. Here's a copy with black outline. You need the SVG file if you want to change it yourself but this forum doesn't allow that file type. I can email it if you want.
