Been working wood for about 40 years... the last 8 or so I have been in the bottomless pit of lathe work... I have always had one sort of scroll saw or another, the past few years a Ryobi has been sitting in the shop... had a bare-bones Delta 16" before that.. made a couple desk name plates, a couple ornaments, etc...
Have always wanted a Dewalt 788... forever... never could pull the trigger though. I was talking to a tool distributor at work and asked if he could swing a good price on the Dewalt... he said "what a coincidence, my sales manager was just talking about Amazon having a deal on that saw for way less than our cost"
Went to Amazon, and bought it... $354 Whoa!!
First project was a United States Army wall plaque from that book of patterns by Mike and Vicky Lewis... to keep the story short, basically 4 days later I am just finishing it up. I kinda jumped in with both feet and immediately humbled.
The saw needing tuning... still does to some degree (front to back blade movement) and I learned a ton as I went about saw speed, blade selection, stack cutting, lighting, seating... good grief!!... but loving it all.
Hope to be around here a lot... it is really a lot of fun!
I am United States Coast Guard retired, and did a 3 year hitch in the Army too back in the stone ages... work at Ft Benning now for a Defense contractor...
See ya around!
