Quarters Map
« on: June 01, 2010, 10:43:10 am »
My first post and it's a brag - my wife would have a field day if she found out.

Made of made of 3/4" oak, mahogany, purple heart, yellowheart, cherry, poplar, lacewood, American holly and pine. I still need to put a few coats of lacquer on it.

Hawaii is made of Yellowheart inlaid in lacewood and please note the George Washington on the upper left made with a scaled down pattern by Kathy Wise.

Nice work, looks great. How many hours do you have in it?  8)

Thanks for the kind words.  I couldn't begin to tell you how many hours are in it, if I had to estimate I'd say around 100 - not including "thinking".

Very nice.  I really like the variety of woods you used.  Makes the states really "POP"

Next question, do you have all the quarters for the map?  8)

Hey Zohar, That is an excellent version! I made one about five years ago or whenever the pattern came out. I used maple for the states and stained each state with bright colors. I never collected all the quarters for it.

dgman - great looking map, do you have a bigger picture?
I scaled the map up (it was a mistake but I only realized it after I finished cutting) so the final piece is about 4' x 2' - hence it will stay in the garage until someone wants to have it, LOL.
