General Scroll Saw Talk / Brrrrr
« on: January 01, 2013, 12:25:00 pm »
Started several new projects on Friday in my unheated garage.   Cut my blanks, sprayed my patterns with the glue I had  warming in the house.  That was enough for that session.
Saturday I drilled holes and prep'd all my peices.   My feet were feeling like icecubes.
Sunday I actually cut one of the  projects until I felt my core temp dropping. Stayed indoors
all day  yesterday and  today it is a balmy 10-15 degrees with the high of 25 today. Brrr....

Happy New Year everybody.  Stay warm, Stay safe and happy scroll'n!!

If you haven't already,    You might check out their web site and  see  if they  carry  the manuals online.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: stack cutting gone bad
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:29:33 pm »
I learned a trick reading the forum.    I hot glue the edges of my stacks...   Drill a access hole near my pattern as you would a inside cut.   This seems to give a little extra support as you cut.   The stacks act as one solid piece while cutting.  When all  done they fall out like a deck of cards.

I slso have the 40-695....   I  only have the use of one arm  and raising/locking the upper arm is a breeze.   Check out CPO Outlet.   They usually run a good deal on the Delta and Dewalt models.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Dremel Plunge Router attachment

Has anyone tried using the plunge router attachment on a dremel to drill holes in your project.   Just wondering how well this could work.

I saw a product advertised for major $$  that seemed to  use the  same principle .

Yes...  I  used  the Fathers Day & Birthday excuse this year  to get my Delta 40-690.   The wife says Santa is in there as well  :D...   I picked mine up at CPO outlet with the stand and light for around $480 (I think) with shipping.  I  have been very pleased.   This  was a replacement to my 10+ year old Dremel that was converted to use pinless. It was a great little starter machine and still  works great.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Headband Magnifiers
« on: November 06, 2012, 11:02:46 pm »
Has anyone used these hands free headband magnifiers opposed to the mounted magnifier/light combination??

Just wondering how well they work.  It looks like a cheaper alternative.

Very neat....  But I think I would practice and learn how to use spiral blades before investing in something like this.
It is a very good concept.

I have seen several post where it was suggested to clean the ends of the blades with mineral spirits to remove the factory added oils...   Also clean the the blade holder with the mineral spirits.

Some years ago I bought a paint pencil from Hobby Lobby.   Basically its a marker with the canister filled with paint.   They came in assorted colors.   Don't know if they still carry them or not...  But just a thought.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Learned a valuable lesson
« on: October 25, 2012, 01:25:42 pm »
I was working on a project the other day that I have been working on/off  for the past 5 or 6 weeks. Since I am still fairly new to this hobby and still  trying to find my groove....    I  was  cutting  at  a  very slow speed.    Well,   just  as  I  was  getting to a very delicate section....  I  pushed just a little to hard, causing the blade to wander and Broke
my project.

I still  had a lot of cuts to do so I decided to expeirement since I couldn't wreck it any more.   I  put in a fresh blade, turned up my speed to about 3/4, increased my tension a bit.   I am now a scrolling fool.    I  have stopped pushing and have lots more control.  It is much more enjoyable now!!    Still  trying to find my groove... But there is light at the end of the tunnel.    ;D
