General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Packaging

You could also use one of those "Seal-a-meal" type of machines.  They have bags that are pretty good size and on a roll.  They will wrap and kind of suck all the air out too, so they will be similar to the shrink wrap.  I don't really know how the cost would compare to the shrink wrap, but it will give you one more option to look into.  The plastic that is used may be a little thicker and stronger too.

Let us know how you do!  Sheila

I really think that would be nice.  I loved the article you did for today's blog, Charles.  As you probably know, I don't really do portrait type of patterns.  I loved seeing the way you make your patterns and I can definitely see what sets your patterns apart.  Nothing is more frustrating than spending the time to work on a project only to find errors in the patterns.  Over the years, I have had several offers from others who said they would help me by cutting my prototypes for me.  I know some designers do this and that is cool for them, but I prefer to do all my own cutting.  That way I know in my heart that things are as they should be.  When a customer calls and asks a question, I am able to answer them with conviction.

Thank you for sharing your technique with us.  You work is great and it will be nice to be able to see a 'sneak peek' at your new designs. My vote is all for it!

Intarsia / This may sound like a stupid question . . . . .
« on: May 09, 2010, 11:06:12 am »
I know this is an Intarsia board, but I am new to Intarsia and want to learn to do it, but right now I mostly do 'segmentation'.  Would I be more appropriate on the general woodworking board, or do you Intarsia artists consider segmentation part of your craft?

Thanks in advance?

Introduce Yourself. / Hello from beautiful Nova Scotia!
« on: May 09, 2010, 11:00:27 am »
Hi, everyone!  My name is Sheila Landry and I am originally from the Chicago area and now live in beautiful Nova Scotia.  I love all types of woodworking and scroll sawing, as well as decorative and fine art painting.  I am fortunate enough to be able to design scroll saw, woodworking and painting patterns for a living and have been working as a Contributing Editor for Creative Woodworks and Crafts magazine for over 13 years, as well as have my own pattern company, Sheila Landry Designs.

I love mixing up different techniques to make unusual and unique designs that are fun to make and give to others.  I find that woodworkers in general are some of the most kind, giving and generous people in the world and it makes life a joy to be able to interact with them on a daily basis.  In my many years of teaching both scrolling and painting, I found that I learn as much as I teach from my students and customers.  There are always several paths to a single destination, I find.

I look forward to participating and learning from this forum and the wonderful people involved here.  I only recently discovered this site and I am absolutely amazed at the quality of patterns that Steve comes up with, as well as the readers' contributions.  I think it is a wonderful vehicle that will help our scroll saw community grow and stay healthy and I hope that I can contribute to it in a positive way!

Thanks, Steve for your hard work and making all this possible!

Sheila
