General Scroll Saw Talk / Good Stool For Scrolling?
« on: February 29, 2012, 11:04:20 pm »
Does anyone have the H8363 shop stool from Grizzley? I cannot find any reviews and was interested in purchasing it for my scrolling. What do ya'll use? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I was wanting one with casters and a soft, but, thick seat! There are so many to select from, but, a lot of junk out there also.

I am using an Ex 21 and yesterday I had saw speed set 100% due to hard pine and thickness, so, maybe speed is my problem!?

Ask Steve a question. / Pattern Paper and Tape Problem

For some reason today, when I made a cut, the paper/tape would not clear the cut and I could not follow the line without stopping and brushing off with my finger! I am new to scrolling and wandered if I was doing something wrong or had a problem with saw or blade adjustment? Was speed too slow or blade worn out or tube not blowing hard enough or??? I was using blue painters tape and 3M77 adhesive and #2 blade on 1/4" birch. I did not seem to have problem yesterday using #5 blade on 3/4 hard pine. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

General Scroll Saw Talk / It is Additive!!
« on: February 22, 2012, 04:30:29 pm »
well, I finally got to use my new scroll saw, which, by the way, is my first. Boy, I am afraid this scrolling can become addictive!! I cut the cat and mouse that Steve put on the web site and only broke one blade.!LOL I then made my wife a bird hose, using the new scroll saw, mitre saw, router, and sander. I think I have found a new passion: WOODWORKING!! I am going to attempt some inside cuts tomorrow, so I expect a broken blade or two and probably broken pieces; but, boy, this is fun! Thank all of ya'll for your help and advice and I am sure I will be seeking more in the future!

Thank ya'll so much for you kind word. Yes, Sheila, I am planning a fun weekend! Dan, I play acoustic guitar mostly now on a Martin DVM, and the songs I play are mostly gospel, country, and bluegrass. My wife used to play an old Fender jass bass but got "burn out". LOL Anyway, thanks again ya'll and hope I don't break too many blades this weekend!?LOL

YEA!!! Went to Rockwall today to pick up my new Excalibur 21! I was really impressed with Ray and he gave me a good deal on the saw, stand, light, and footswitch. Thank you Ray! Of course we had to talk guitars since I found out he also owned and played guitars. Too late to set everything up, but will start in the a.m. bright and early! Thank ya'll for your advice and I know that I will have many, many, more questions in the next few days to come.  Can't wait to start making dust!!

I am just about to begin scrolling and have started down loading patterns for future projects. Here is my "stupid" question. For example, on the new "quitar player" pattern, are the facial features and the guitar shapes made from single cuts of the blade and if so, how do you drill holes so they will not show?
