General Scroll Saw Talk / Newbie Needs Scroll Saw Purchase Input

I have narrowed my purchase down to three saws: A Delta 40-690 @ Woodcraft for $349.99, a used Dewalt 788 (2 yrs old) on Craigs list for $350.00, or a Excalibur  for $674.99. These all include stand and light. I would appreciate the input from you experienced scrollers out there.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Dewalt 788 For Sale on CL

I just saw two Dewalt 788 scroll saws on sale on Craigs List-Dallas,Ft. Worth, Texas. One was $235 and the other was $425.00. Don't have any details, but thought someone may be interested. Oh, they both had stands and lights I believe. I emailed, but have not heard back from them.

 :)Thank ya'll for the warm welcome and advice. Being from a small town in NE Texas, Paris. I am a little overwhelmed by the responses from all over the world!LOL I can just feel that this is going to be an exciting adventure for me. Thank you Steve for establishing this forum!

Hello, my name is Tony Cunningham and I am just now beginning the hobby of scrolling. In fact, I have not purchased a saw yet. I have been reading and studying about scrolling now for about 6 weeks and found  this site to be the most useful. I am either going to purchase a Dewalt 788 or a Delta 40-690  saw and any advise would be gratefully appreciated. I am 69 yrs old, so whatever I buy will be my first and last scroll saw. LOL
