Pattern Requests. / Re: Baby Pattern
« on: April 04, 2016, 07:16:44 pm »
Hi
Could someone rework this pattern from Steve Goods site..( Special Delivery / Baby.)
I need to replace the foot with something else. But also have the Picture insert hole 2" in it.
  Thanks, Jim

Hi woodcutter....I had a similar issue not long ago, I searched through the pattern catalogue and found something close to what I was looking for. I then printed out both patterns, then I cut the replacement part from one and added it to the pattern I wanted to finish up with.
It was much easier than I thought and gave me a finished product I was happy with.

Hi Jim....It was only the picture I saw as I did a Goggle search. The website for the pattern is in the link below.

If you replaced the foot with a larger picture frame, you could have a bigger picture of the baby.

I think this may be the one that woodcutter is referring to.

Hi woodcutter...the picture below shows a stork delivering a new born baby. If you printed out both patterns, you can replace the foot with the stork from the other picture.

That would give you 2 storks in the picture though. The link below shows a few ideas, but they are few and far between.

Have you thought of spreading the psalm over 2 or 3 coasters?

Thanks dunk and Hawkdave for reading and posting....I change my Avatar just for you Hawkdave....I do have a very busy schedule, sometimes I wish there where more than 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week LOL...that's one of the reasons I don't post here on the forum as much as I used to... :)

That's much better Russ....but it does look like you saw yourself in the mirror, might explain the shocked look. ;)

I really like what you have done. With the lable on the bottle, is that painted or is it the colour of the wood?

I make a lot of wooden games for the kids in our street to play with. My neighbour, who is a painter, paints them for me. He uses ordinary white paint for the first coat, then adds the top coats of varying colours. The depth in the colour is a lot better using the first white coat.

As far as child safe paint, is there such a beast. I don't think so because most of the pigments come from the earth as well as man made products, and unless you know what they consist of, then consider them to be a possible hazard. Take the humble Talcum Powder (used as a pigment extender) This has just been tagged as unsafe to use on babies, Johnsons are now in the spotlight over this issue.

The worst component used in paint many years ago was lead, it was used in a liquid form as a dryer for the paint. This is no longer used in the western world and has made paint more safer for all people concerned.

As for paints made in China, right now, I would not trust them at all. The strict guidelines set for the western countries do not seem to be in place for a large range of products coming from China. I would recommend that you buy locally made paint and steer clear of Chinese made products.

After working for a major paint company here in Australia for 22 years, I made sure I read all of the MSDS sheets before handling any of the products. That includes the humble Talcum powder.

There is plenty of information on the internet and after some searching, you will find the manufacturers MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for the products they use.

The Coffee Shop / Re: Proofreading, or not

When I was at work, I would read the daily paper before I started. I would quite often point out the goof ups made by the reporters and the editorial staff.

This is not one of them, but a comedy sketch done by Benny Hill always stuck in my mind....

What's this thing called love?

By adding a comma at the right spot, it changes it completely, and of course, Benny Hill made sure that it was well understood. If you knew Benny Hill, then you know he had a sordid sense of humour.

What's this thing called, love?

Thanks for sharing your headlines with us.

I was beginning to wonder if you could do none intarsia pieces, just kidding, with the quality of your intarsia pieces, doing something like the cross must have been a breeze for you. :)

Well done mate!!!

Dave, I thought about that and about adding a 60W light to speed drying and/or raise the ambient temp if needed.

Curious, do you use a paper filter (surgical mask, etc) on the inlet side of the vacuum hose? I was wondering about the residue building up in the hose and/or making its way into the vacuum filter.

Jim

I thought about both of those methods and finally arrived at using a coffee filter and it works really well. It catches all of the overspray and doesn't overload the vacuum too much.
