It isn't a scroll saw project, but I was rather intrigued by it.

Brag Forum / Cheese Board
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:48:12 am »
Today I spent the day with my step dad working in the shop. He brought his saw over then we both went on a shopping spree at Woodworker's Source. Got some 1/2 in Soft Maple and a few other boards. Then on home to make cheese boards. We both made one board and then we made one of the grocery carry handles each using some 3/4 BB that he had. We had a good enough day in the shop. Will be working some more on other projects.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Buying Wood Guide
« on: January 12, 2013, 01:40:01 am »
I made this simple video for my wife. She wanted to buy me some wood but felt intimidated going into a store like Woodworker's Source by herself. She also didn't know what to look for when in the store. So this is a simple video and I think some of you might find it amusing if not helpful. http://youtu.be/yX0EruE46RM

General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting Board Finish
« on: January 06, 2013, 07:30:17 pm »
I am thinking about making some cutting boards. I was going to use the mouse and cheese board from Steve Good patterns. What is a good finish for that. I want to be sure it is safe for cutting food on. Also, what kind of wood would you suggest for this cutting board. We want something that will look nice enough with a natural color but not too expensive.

General Scroll Saw Talk / good soft wood to cut with
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:44:41 pm »
Was wondering what is a good soft wood about 1/2 to 3/4 in thick to cut word art with. Something that is solid wood not ply. I know pine is soft, but was thinking about some other woods. I see samples done by Steve on the patterns page, but not sure what he used for them.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Iron Wood
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:23:22 am »
I got some Iron Wood today from a friend. This sure is some hard wood and not very big pieces. I need to find a way to cut the wood into slices and into workable pieces. When I get some pieces cut I will post to show how the wood looks. Not sure what I will make with it yet.

Pattern Requests. / Live Laugh Love
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:53:35 pm »
I am not sure if this kind of request is allowed, I saw a sign at someone's house that says, "Live Laugh Love" I found a picture of it online it was in the scrollsaw magazine. Not sure of which issue, was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a pattern for this.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Merry Christmas to ME
« on: December 26, 2012, 01:32:27 pm »
For Christmas I got a small file set, 3 dozen spiral blades, 2 gorilla glues, 1 can of polyurethane, 2 patterns for making candle jar holders, 2 books (one on boxes and 300 Christian patterns) and $30 for buying wood or taking a class on using my lathe. I'd say I made out like a scroll saw bandit for sure.

The Coffee Shop / One Man's (Woman's) Trash is another Man's Treasure
« on: December 26, 2012, 12:35:27 am »
I have a customer in Mesa, AZ (The lady who gave me the door harp idea) who was cleaning out her garage and had this item set in her driveway ready to go to the dump. She said she couldnt find anyone who wanted it and asked if I wanted it. We have a small end table that has been ready for the trash for many many years. Well, I took this treasure home and put a cloth over it until Christmas day. My wife loved it. Tomorrow we will be hauling the old table out the door and giving it a proper home in the trash.

Brag Forum / Nativity Set
« on: December 26, 2012, 12:16:21 am »
I worked, sweated, cried tears, and bled making this project for my mother in law. (actually only the bleeding part is true. I sanded off the tip of one of my fingers while using the belt sander on the base) But with a bit of work, I managed to make her this nativity set.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Busy day
« on: December 23, 2012, 02:01:58 am »
Well, I am officially off work for a week. I spent some good time today making some items. I started by making a snowflake ornament (cant have too many of these) and then I made a cross with a dove in it for my wife's secret sister at church tomorrow. Then I worked on a nativity scene for my mother in law. I still have more to do on it. Maybe tomorrow I will post some pictures if I have time to get some. A fun day working on the saw. To make it all better I had my wife come out and make one cut on her mom's gift so she could say she also helped make it.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Snowflake Ornament Video
« on: December 22, 2012, 09:49:52 pm »
http://youtu.be/6RnwCXXv65w I made this quick video to show how I make my snowflake ornaments. It is not the best quality, but it should do if you want to learn to make snowflakes out of paper or transfer them to patterns for wood. Watch the video and let me know how hard it is to understand what I did. I plan to redo this later with a real camera.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Check out this Clock Tower
« on: December 20, 2012, 12:11:52 am »
I met one of our members out in Mesa, AZ while making my pharmacy deliveries. He works in his garage and has invited me to check out his work anytime I am in the area. Well, today I stopped in to check out the final work he did on his clock tower. He also took time to show another clock he was working on. Along with showing his work he gave me some tips on scroll saw and lathe work. Thanks Danny for the time you spend with this newbie.
