Pattern Requests. / Anyone know what this is?
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:01:47 am »
Ok, I know an elderly lady. Her husband had made this item about 25 years ago. It is basically a large heart with heart hole cut into it. Then a board across the top has 4 fishing lines with silk (Christmas Ornaments Like Balls) balls hanging down. behind the silk balls are wires that stretch across the hole in the middle. When you open and close the door the balls bounce on the wires making musical sounds until they stop. I would love to get a pattern of this, but don't know what it is called to even begin looking. Any suggestions?

Brag Forum / My 4th Project

This cross was made of 1/2 in Walnut. I got the idea for this by browsing crosses on the internet. I saw one in the UK, but not the plans for it. So I took the idea and made my own plan. I drew it up on Paint. The original one I saw was a bit different. My first attempt at this one was done with Popular. It broke at the last possible moment. So I got the Walnut and had some fun.

Intarsia / My plans for first project
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:07:17 pm »
I drew up this plan using Paint. I printed it out about 20 inches across. I am still looking to see what kinds of woods I will be using. I know I want to use Zebra for the coastal cliffs. Probably will use pine for the sky and cherry for the land. Not sure about the rest of it all though. Any suggestions would be helpful before I go buying wood and cutting.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Wood Vibration
« on: June 10, 2012, 05:32:55 am »
Ok, I am very new at working with a scroll saw. Only completed 4 projects so far. (not counting 2 failed projects) My biggest problem (other than not having enough time to work on projects) is the wood tends to vibrate like mad at times. This has caused 2 projects to break. What am I doing wrong that would cause the wood to vibrate so horribly? Any advice would be nice.  :)

Brag Forum / So Good I made Two

A week before Mothers Day I made this (my 2nd project) cross. Of course my wife thought it was wonderful, but then again it wouldnt be right to just make one for my mother. I mean, with her having a mother too..... Well My third project (done the day before Mothers Day) was this same project. Needless to say, both mother and mother in law were very pleased.

This is my first project made with my scroll saw. I made this with a piece of oak given to me from an uncle. My wife liked it well enough to hang it on our wall.

Introduce Yourself. / Hello From Phoenix
« on: June 09, 2012, 06:37:50 pm »
I just want to introduce myself. I am a new scroll saw enthusiast. Most my life I have done very little in the area of wood work. I am not known as a "Mr Fix-it" by any means. So, this past Christmas when I told my wife I wanted a scroll saw she almost fainted. Well she loves to spoil me and got me that saw. So here I am, a 43 year old kid playing with his new toy. I am still new at making this saw work and creating things worth keeping. (I have a pile of scraps from broken projects. I just use them to keep practicing). This blog is a fantastic site full of great info. I love this site and know I would be a lot farther behind in my learning without it. Thanks to all who make this site work and worthwhile.
