General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: On/Off foot pedal
« on: May 03, 2010, 10:35:48 am »
It takes a while to change the habit of reaching for the saw switch but it eventually becomes a natural movement.
I got my 'momentary' switch very early in my learning process so it came fairly quickly.
My next 'wiring' project will be to hard wire the foot switch and jumper the saw switch out completely. Will mount a 4 square box on my saw stand so I have a receptacle to plug in my light/magnifier so it will be controlled independently from the saw switch and remove the saw light. Will also mount an aquarium pump to provide air to the re-configured blower and that will run with the saw.
This will result in a single cord from the wall receptacle to the saw. There are enough cords running around my 'mobile' shop.
All my tools are on wheeled stands so we can, when necessary, move everything out of the way and get the car in the garage!

I also stick with the 3M and have purchased a 'brayer' from Michaels to firmly roll down the pattern so it definitely sticks to the under layer of 'painters tape' that I apply to the wood first. Makes for easy removal of the pattern and leaves very little residue.
Wood, painters tape, pattern and then clear packing tape.

Pattern Requests. / Re: A Request and plea for help!

Thank you 'Kokopelli' for your efforts in my behalf.
The pattern will be cut out of a scrapbook cover of plywood and I think I will do the 'outline' of the stallion, which the school also uses, and just individually cut the letters as shown. Then a backer will be added of deep red in the school color.

I appreciate your help!!!

I am a 'cutter' not a pattern maker so I am enlisting your help.

My daughter wants me to make a scrapbook cover for my grandson's graduation and include the school 'mascot'.

I've attached a '.gif' file of the "Charger Stallion". Finished size will need to be about 3" high.

Any assistance will be greatly and sincerely appreciated.

Bouncing Wood!
I find that when I get in a bit of a hurry to get something completed or to get ready for a meal break I start pushing and then the wood 'bounces' and I have to remind 'self' to sloooooow down and let the darn BLADE do the work!

Is it speed, blade choice, pushing on the wood to get it to cut, blade squareness to the table, etc.????

I think my vote would be for TENSION!

General Scroll Saw Talk / WOOD! Newly cut Walnut!
« on: April 29, 2010, 08:13:55 pm »
I have access to some 10 to 12" walnut logs that are being removed fro a subdivision....
These are 10 to 12" in diameter and 18 to 24" long.
What do I need to do to age them before using.
I plan to saw them into planks with a bandsaw and eventually use them for scroll projects.

"It's the culmination of all things scroll saw."

I will second that statement!

Now if Steve could only find a way for it to make him RICH and Famous instead of just Famous!!!

Hey Steve!

Let's see if we can get Carl Perkins to set that to music and record it on the "Scrollsaw Workshop" label!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Your own website
« on: April 26, 2010, 08:56:14 pm »
Mine is unrelated to scrolling and I have had a site for several years. Within the last year I switched to  'InMotion Hosting' and my son's S.O. redesigned the site.
InMotion is full featured and not expensive if you do your own design work. Very helpful and thorough.
