The Coffee Shop / Looking at life from the seat of a tractor
« on: September 22, 2015, 06:49:31 pm »
Just so's y'all know I am still alive and kicking!

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled.

Meanness don't just happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about, ain't never gonna happen anyway.

Don't judge folks by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good and honorable life, then when you get older and think back,
you'll enjoy it a second time.

Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none.

Timin' has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with,
watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence,
try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply,

Speak kindly, and leave the rest to God.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

The Coffee Shop / Dog Days of August!
« on: August 04, 2015, 02:45:10 pm »
Typical Missouri in summer, Hot, Humid, Lazy......

But back at the saw and it feels damn good even if I have to keep cleaning and re-waxing the table due to sweaty forearms.
Can't believe how much I missed this tranquil time!
Something to be said for my 'happy pills' and a few hours and making some interesting holes in plain wood!

Hugz to all

The Coffee Shop / I'm on the way!

Replied to Judy's post and will repost here...

Been a tough couple years and I am getting back in the swing of things.

Just spent 4 days in the mountains of Silverthorne, CO at my daughter's family retreat in the mountains.
I had many hours to just contemplate and 'talk with the BOSS' and  feel much better for it.

I also have missed my interactions with you all and I really appreciate all your prayers and good wishes...along with the meditations and the 'happy pills' from my Dr. I think I can make it back to the real obnoxious, fun loving me!

My sincerest "HUGZ" to you ALL!!!!!!!!!

The Coffee Shop / Where are your glasses?
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:41:16 am »
Yesterday my daughter e-mailed me again, asking why I didn't do something useful with my time.

?Like sitting around the pool and drinking wine is not a good thing?? I asked.

Talking about my  "doing-something-useful"  seems to be her favorite topic of conversation.

She was  "only thinking of me", she said and suggested that I go down to the Senior Center and hang out with the guys.

I did this and when I got home last night, I decided to play a prank on her.

I e-mailed her and told her that I had joined a Parachute Club.

She replied,  "Are you nuts?  You are 78 years old and now you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?"

I told her that I even got a Membership Card and e-mailed a copy to her.

She immediately telephoned me and yelled, "Good grief, Mom, where are your glasses?!
This is a Membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club."

"Oh man, I'm in trouble again,? I said, ?I really don't know what to do. I signed up for five jumps a week!!"

The line went quiet and her friend picked up the phone and said that my daughter had fainted.

Life as a Senior Citizen is not getting any easier, but sometimes it can be fun.

The Coffee Shop / Old?
« on: July 16, 2014, 09:48:46 am »
What do you remember from your earlier years? From the following list, count all the items that you remember personally from your own lifetime:
Mechanical typewriters
Diners with jukeboxes at the tables
Vending machines that dispensed bottles of soda
Beemans chewing gum
Telephones on party lines
Newsreels playing before your movie at the cinema
Beehive hair-dos
Candy cigarettes
Radios the size of modern day furniture
Brooklyn Dodgers
Howdy Doody
Sperry & Hutchinson Green Shield Stamps
45-RPM vinyls
Mimeograph paper
Blue camera flashbulbs
Diners Club credit card
The hobby of ant farming
Drive-in theaters
Studebaker automobiles
Sputnik I

If you remembered:

0-5 = Wish I were young as you
6-10 = Enjoying your golden years
11-15 = Better not say your age
16-20 = Those were the days!
