Garnet Hall; an intarsia enthusiast, author and pattern maker lives in Estevan, Sask. He sells Sawbird Brand of blade, I believe these blades are similar to Flying Dutchman/ Niqua . Price is very attractive, shipping has never been over $4.canada Post. His website can be accessed by Sawbird or Garnet Hall. A very interesting fellow and easily responds to a telephone call

On my old Dremal I had to use sand paper on the blade hold screws to rough up this helped. I also cut knobs to fit over the blade holder screws to tighten  them a little tighter. Steve has a pattern to make these.

I visit this site often , it is a resource and info - go to site for me; traffic has slowed maybe there are more persons like me who visit but don't post. I have yet to learn how to post a photograph of my work, on the bright side my computer skills are slowly improving.
DW rest and get well, make designer sawdust and let us know how you are doing,

Introduce Yourself. / Re: Hello from Boomerk

Welcome, I am Norm from Nipawin Saskatchewan. My wife and I visited your fine state of Texas a few years ago, Drove from home to Brownsville on to El Paso following along the Rio Grande, stayed a few days at Big Bend National Park. put just over 10,000 Km ( 6,000 miles) in about 6 weeks. Interesting, beautiful and so many very nice people. Got lost once winding up at the Dallas Fort Worth International airport, where we received the biggest belly laugh from the parking lot attendant when I explained our predicament.

The cheapie peel and stick from Walmart sells here for $8.00 (for clear) and 4.00 for the white, both work real well for photo picture puzzles. I place it on the back side of the photo puzzle, then glue the pattern directly to the sacrifice board  (I use good quality spray 777) and bind the photo and sacrifice board  together with packing tape. this makes release of the packing tape from the puzzle pieces much easier then just using the packing tape. A role lasts for a long time,

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Glue then stain?
« on: July 12, 2018, 08:21:23 am »
I have used watered down acrylic paints as a wash coat then glued with reasonable results. No stain on glue up areas is the best way to go of course getting a layer of squeeze out glue on an area to be finished has turned many of my classy AAPlus masterpieces to a C Double Minus rating.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: No Sanding
« on: July 12, 2018, 08:09:26 am »
perhaps the no sanding person uses  wood scrapers to rid the saw marks and blemishes. I bought a set of scrapers from Lee Valley a few years ago, tried them, they do work good leaving the bare wood very smooth. almost a polish appearance.
The downside I found was- takes lots of energy and I never really got the hang of the proper method to use the tool and burnishing the scraper tool to get a good even working edge was not my skill level.

Nicely done, I to am a proud Canadian. I do like our American friends and reading Steve's write up I can feel the similarities to our Canadian way. With all the negative news about our countries trade relations I would just like to say nothing has changed for me, I will still buy Canadian first and American is my second first. Tomorrow I will celebrate our National Canada day celebrations and on July 4th, I recognize our American relationship.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Best Wood for Thin Walls
« on: June 24, 2018, 10:05:09 pm »
After looking at the "god loves cowboys" The hat outline  would be delicate with any type of wood. I cut the golf club "weed wacker" pattern out of pine. this pattern has thin places as well. I pre sanded, then scrolled , but did not sand as it wood have broken up. to sturdy it up I applied light ca glue to the thin parts. then finished with a wipe on poly. the ca glue made the weak areas much sturdier all though the wood darkened slightly and the poly didn't soak in as well.

Hard woods such as maple or walnut wood be stronger. a Baltic birch plywood or other hard wood plwoods  would be another choice to consider.
