Brag Forum / Re: Small booklet - scrolling through wood and paper
« on: June 09, 2015, 02:44:41 am »
Thank you for all the positive comments.

DWSudekum - I bound the booklet with a small strip of leather at the top. I also used this on the botttom to keep the papers in place and once this notebook is used a new one can be substituted. To keep it toghether while scrolling I used tape (masking tape/painters tape). I wraped the paper stack in another piece of paper (wraped it cmpletely like a gift) and positioned it on the bottom cover. Then I taped it in place. I added the top cover, squared it up with the bottom cover and taped it to the bottom cover. I tried to ensure that everything was tight. I added the name, drilled the holes and scrolled it out.

I made this gift for my mother-in-law. I stack cut three of the pictures and then used one for the book and cut her name through the paper and the back cover (the back cover is blank otherwise).

Reasonably happy how it turned out but see that paper needs new blades more often than wood.

Ask Steve a question. / Double skip tooth blades
« on: May 30, 2015, 05:01:15 pm »
I have some blades with two teeth close together and then large gap. It is thus something between normal tooth and skip tooth blades. I have watched several videos on blades and search quite a bit and can't seem to find any information on the advantages of these blades. I would appreciate any information on these blades especially what their advantage is over regular or skip tooth blades.

This is one of my first projects where I used a scroll saw combined with other woodworking techniques. When the cabinet is opened the picture spits apart in two sections (can be seen here - and the whole build process: http://blogfice.blogspot.se/2015/05/dart-cabinet.html). I however made a slight design mistake where one part on the right door (the thumb) is higher than a section on the right door. Care must thus be taken when closing the doors to ensure the parts slide under each other.
