My daughter was renting a house for 6 months and the landlord was a money hungry pig. Lots of things kept breaking down and on one occasion he refused to get it fixed so she rang the Ombudsman and it was fixed immediately. But because of this and the fact that she refused to stay after the 6 month lease was up he went through the house with a fine tooth comb to find something wrong. Well he did, there was a broken fly screen door, which my husband could have fixed in less than 5 minutes. He wanted her to pay $81to get it fixed or not get her bond back of $1500,

when she refused because the screen was broken before she moved in he thought that he could frighten her by taking her to the Tenancy Tribunal, Sara's answer was "Bring it on". Sara found a photo that was taken before she moved in and low and behold in the very corner of the photo you can see that the screen needed mending. She got the photo enlarged and took it to the tribunal and won her case.

Then the judge told the landlord that he was greedy and that the repair to the screen would not have cost $80 it may have only cost $20 and that he was to pay all court costs.

So the little people do win sometimes.
