For the Grandkids
« on: September 05, 2013, 12:56:04 pm »
Ray (EIEIO) gave me the idea for this one, so I gave it a go (Thanks Ray).  I grabbed a couple of chunks of pine 2X4, resawed in half, cut the blocks, sanded and painted with acrylic paint.  The backboard is a leftover piece of oak (I think), and another partial piece of a backing style board.  The dimensions are roughly 12" X 12" for the whole assembly, with each block being 2.5" X 2.5".  For the layout, I measured and drew lines similar to a Tic-Tac-Toe board and tried to center the blocks thereon.

Let me know what your thoughts are - ways to improve (other than pitching it into the woodburner).

Thanks for taking and look and have a decent day.

Pitch it...I think not!  I'd love to have the pattern in our toys section.  I'd even cut one for my new grand son.

Hint hint about the pattern...:)

Al - this looks great. I'll be watching for the pattern post. I like the idea of the resawn 2x4 to make the shapes - they must stand proud a bit when inserted so little fingers can grip them to pull out. Nice job.

Very nice, Al,
As for any suggestions, I have seen some of these puzzles with knobs in the center of the
puzzle pieces to pick the pieces up with but, I like the idea of just leaving the edges proud
better.
Thanks for sharing!
God Bless! Spirithorse
