I was waiting for the punch line at the end, can't believe it's true, but then again I've been fooled by taxes before. :-\

Looks like I will be going down in the country for a wild cedar tree again this year!

My friend has about 98 acres of woods so I should be able to find a good one again!

15 cents - come on guys! That's not even worth thinking about and not at all arguing. You're throwing away wood pieces that cost more each day.

However, Torsten, when I decide to throw that piece of wood into the kindling box it is because I decided to do so.
It is NOT because some governmental agency is telling me that I have to so they can cover the runaway spending that is and has gone on by our government. And NO I did not 'vote them in'!

For years I have been saying that they should have to take two laws off the books every time they add a new one.  Now they should have to remove two tax laws for every one they add as well.  Maybe they should oust two politicians for every one we elect!

15 cents is not bad down under we pay 15% tax on every thing we buy plus our income tax plus our local body tax plus our acc tax, at the end of the day we are only left with the stump of the tree if we are lucky

true, jimbo. It's kind of the same here. Example?
I had to register my little business to the chambers of crafts here in Germany. That's something that only exists in Germany.
I had quite some letters exchanged with them until they decided to let me do my business. But I have to register as a "ivory sculptor and wooden toy maker" in the list of unrestricted businesses. Costs me 50 Euro(~70$) once and each year at least 100 Euro(~140$).
And that's just for the register...

And you Americans - how do you want to keep things together when you're already arguing about additional 15cent for a once-in-a-year Christmas tree??

It's not the money.  It's the principal and it is most worthy of argument, at least it should be.  I think our Founding Fathers would agree.  The bigger question here is why does our federal government think it's necessary and appropriate to get involved in what should be strictly private enterprise?  The constitution of our country states that only Congress can create new taxes, but other agencies of government get around that by calling them "fees" instead of taxes.  This is just another example of politicians trying to appease one special interest group and in turn increase the size of the federal bureaucracy.  Fortunately, by the looks of things, they've come to their senses and backed off the proposal.

The Government is like a child with a sweet tooth that can't be satisfied with just one piece of candy. So they sneak in and grab a couple more when the parent ( voters ) aren't looking. Once it is eaten there is no way to get it back. So the sneak thief continues to steal. This year 15 cents and next year??????
So us Americans have to keep a sharp eye on our government (thieves)!

If they have truely scrapped that before it was started, our system is working, but we still can't get complacent any more, just look where that has gotten us!
