I notice some people use 1/8 and some use 1/4 is there a preference on sizes for some projects or is it just personal preference?  I have used mostly 1/4 baltic birch for a menards not to far a way handles it and if you are willing to pick a little you can usually find a 4x8 sheet with maybe two plugs in it thats all.  and for 20 dollars or so it cuts the costs down concidering you don't make much on hobbies.

Menards has a decent 1/4" birch ply, and I like using that because it is cheaper then going to Rockler or ordering online. I tend to buy enough for a project or two at a time, not a whole sheet.
If I am framing a project I lean towards 1/8" because using 1/4" can make you run out of room in the rabbet. It is also lighter and sometimes I care about that. I also like that when stack cutting there is twice as many pieces in the stack, so when stack cutting I like to use 1/8".
I think it is a lot of personal preference and what you have available.

Hey Dav, For me I like to use 1/8" because I can stack cut four at a time. Some times 1/4" is used just for effect or to give the project depth. It is really your choice which thickness you use. If the plywood you use does not chip out when cutting, then that is fine. Usually the ply I find at Lowes or Home Depot is too cheap to use for scrolling. I get my Baltic birch and other plywoods from either the Woodcraft store or from www.sloanswoodshop.com.

The 1/4 from home depot or lowes is not listed as baltic birch and has only 3 layers where as menards is listed as baltic aND HAS 5
