Simple and effective.
"key fob" usually means a piece attached to a key ring. Earlier, "fob" was the chain that attached to a pocket watch. Earlier than that, "fob" was the small pocket in your pants that you put your watch into. Jeans still have that pocket above the regular right pocket.
