General Scroll Saw Talk / Beer is not the answer
« on: August 12, 2017, 10:53:31 pm »
This is a follow-up to Steve's beer mug pattern.
https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2017/08/thinking-about-beer-scroll-saw-pattern.html

The question: Do you have a favorite funny saying or phrase that could be put on a mug?

Here is my favorite:  Beer is not the answer. It's the question. The answer is yes.

Maybe this could be a series of patterns. I could see a bunch of these hanging on my wall.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Replacement parts for Excalibur
« on: March 26, 2017, 08:58:50 pm »
I posted this in a different thread back on March 9.

"Had a chance to see the saw, or should I say I saw the saw - whatever - at a Woodcarver show in Grapevine, Tx. The large work surface is definitely a design by a scrollsawer. The saw is integrated with the stand and vibration is minimal. It is one fine machine. The rocker arm parts are the same as the Excaliber so if you have one of those, which I do, parts for the EX are not a problem."

Ray is a very nice man.

After the parts I just purchased wear out, I'll be putting in my order for the Seyco. A percentage of everything I sell will go into a fund to purchase the Seyco Saw.
And Ray is a very nice man.

Has anyone heard any info about the price? Curiosity is killing this cat.
I keep looking at the Seyco website, but it doesn't change.

I used a #5 like Jim said.  I thought it turned out very well.  My dear sweet wife said it was aweSOME.  There is a fine line between aweSOME and aweFUL (this is especially true when using a scrollsaw).

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Not sure what blade to use
« on: March 12, 2016, 02:24:28 pm »
Could be that the blade is dull. I set a timer for 20 minutes and change the blade when it goes off - no matter what!!! For  very dense wood - purpleheart, bloodwood, et al, - 15 minutes max.  Since I started doing this, production has increased, errors have decreased. I would say that this is my two cents worth, but this is worth at least a nickel.

Need some suggestions about blade size for cutting veins. The pattern is a bighorn sheep and most of the detail are veins. Not too thin, not too thick??? Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Paul, for the link to   sloanswoodshop.com (I had to type the www. first to make it work) Since Mike has retired, this looks like it will be my new go-to place.

I use zip-lock bags. Insert project, fill with air, sip it shut to seal it, and it is in its own bubble. I also number all of my projects and write the number on the bag with a permanent marker.

Northerner
I like your idea of removable - I just need something to loosen the knob, not to tighten and removable fits that need.
I didn't see a photo of your device. Is one available?

A little known fact - Murphy's Law was not really named after Murphy but after another man with the same name.
