General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: need some advice on spiral blades

You use a hammer to tap the end flat or very carefully use pliers and twist it back flat but there is a risk of it breaking doing it this way.

Have you tried contacting seyco? Ray is very helpful with saws he sells, he should be able to help you over the phone it could be a defect and he may have a fix for it.

Look for a led bulb that says daylight on it, they are really bright white light kinda like being in the sun light.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: What do you seal pine with?
« on: January 03, 2019, 02:20:52 pm »
Look for a sanding sealer, its a sealer you apply in coats, sanding between coats. It seals the wood fibers making it smoother, I tried it and it does work like it should it also gives the paint a nice smooth slick finish. If you have any scraps use those to test your finish to find the right one so you don't ruin a good projet.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Pattern removal cost
« on: July 26, 2018, 01:03:36 am »
I used those full sheet shipping labels print right on it, cut the pattern out stick it right on the wood and it will not lift off at all, takes a hair dryer to soften the adhesive enough to get it off, and what little bit of sticky is left behind a light sanding takes it off.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Modge Podge
« on: May 11, 2018, 11:06:06 pm »
Modge podge is good stuff, my other half used it in crafts projects, covering wood with paper then modge podge over it to project the paper, it gives a little rough finish and gives a hard plastic coating.

They make different kinds of modge podge, some even for outdoor use, I think one is waterproof, hobby lobby carries most of it.

There is a some good glue called E6000 its a sticky mess but holds good, just make sure both surfaces are clean or no matter what glue you use will not last or hold.

I have tinnitus as well, and I am ony 41. Its awful constant ringing some days its worse makes it hard to hear simple sounds and kinda makes me sound deaf to high pitch tones, I am always say what or huh. Mine is due to being young and stupid and thinking my radio had to be screaming or wear headphones and have them up way too loud. Now I am more cautious to loud noises but the damage is done years ago if I had only listened to what I was told more so by my parents to turn my music down. Even trying to watch tv I have to turn it up loud to hear it.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Maximum Scroll Saw

Go look through Matthis Wandels youtube channels he has two, in one vid he does a comparision of maxium tools which is canda's low end brand of tools.

I love my ex saw, I had a craftsman before and it did ok for about a year before I had issues and to fix it I could buy a new one for the cost of parts so I put up the money for the ex saw. Ray at Seyco in Texas knows the ex and has his own saw out in the market which is pretty close to the ex and his customer service is great. The new saw coming out think its king makes one, the excelsoir are a pretty much spin off remake of the ex saw. If in the USA homedepot is carring the ex 21 model, and to me its worth the price to get it. Dewalt saws unless they did major fixes on the issues I would not own one of the type 2 dewalts there were quality control issues, unless you are lucky and find a type 1 used somewhere.

Depending on the break if its clean super glue does wonders sometimes pending on wood and the break can't tell it broke. I have had a couple times I get almost cutting something I worked so hard on to make it really perfect go to make my last cut and a letter snaps in half, I then scream really bad words, then reach for the super glue and try to save it. One time I had just started and broke a letter, I just trashed it and started over again learning where the weak point was and being very careful cut it out again.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Whats Happened ?
« on: February 27, 2018, 09:15:16 pm »
I spend way too much time on the computer. That said, I open Facebook, Gmail, my financial page, and Scroll Saw Village everyday and leave them open all day long. I get notifications on my phone of new posts. I check them out if they are on a topic that interests me. I am a member of many different pages on FB but hardly every look at them. If I have a question on any topic, I find a forum somewhere that pertains to that subject. I got into metal detecting years ago and joined a ton of them. Then along came woodcarving. Another group of forums. I bought a diesel pickup and had no knowledge of diesels. Another forum. I have lived on forums for the past 15 years. FB will never take their place. So far, scroll sawing has become my number one interest and I do hang out at SSV most of the time but when things get slow there, I come here and one other one. So, I think it just might be the time of year. The weather man has not cooperated for most of you folks who live where I never would. I'm a warm weather person. If it gets below 60, I'm sitting here in my warm office playing on the computer. My wife won't let me bring my saw in here. She draws the line there. Summer is coming though and I'll bet it livens up here.
Ray

I brought my saw inside my house couple years back, the look on my other half's face was priceless, I told her it cost to much in propane plus its cold out side, and I don't have the tv to watch or listen too. She just shook her head and told me I am cleaning up my mess. It really didn't make that big of a mess, but I also kept a vacuum at my saw and after so many running cut minutes I cleaned it up, plus i had hardwood floors to sweep up as well.

Come to think of it, I am also on a truck forum we help with truck repairs and such and it has also gotten really slow, not as busy as it use to be. Back in the day sign on the forum we would have alot of post, now its just a one or two a day if we are lucky. I still think its the social media craze thats putting the hurt on forums, I still like forums over social media things, like snap chat or instagram both of which I refuse to have, I have facebook and thats enough and really I am not on it much anymore.
