The Coffee Shop / Ice Tsunami
« on: January 11, 2014, 01:13:57 am »
This is pretty incredible to watch. See moving ice go across the lawn and crush some houses. Sad and amazing at the same time.

Brag Forum / Wood Burning Project
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:48:20 pm »
I know it isn't scroll saw work. I recently shared some work I did with my wood burning tool. This is my 2nd project.

Brag Forum / First project with scroll saw and wood burning tool
« on: January 04, 2014, 10:37:17 pm »
I got a wood burning tool for Christmas. I had made this cheese board last summer for my wife. Today I took my first attempt at wood burning (other than one small project I did about 10 5 years ago) and I added this mouse and cheese to the board.

The Coffee Shop / Pyrography

I got a simple wood burning kit for Christmas. Now I need to find a good source to help me learn to use it. Would love to be able to combine that with my scroll saw work. I think there are some patterns on here where I could cut some of the design and then burn some.

The Coffee Shop / Christmas Stocking
« on: December 25, 2013, 02:06:51 am »
I grew up with the tradition of having a Christmas Stocking. My wife did not. So over the past 19 years I have helped her grow in this tradition. It took her a few years to get good and creative in things to put in a stocking other than the usual candy and nuts. This year I have to admit she did a pretty decent job. Much to my best surprise she had a gift card for $30 to the Wood Workers Source. So I get a good day shopping for all kinds of good wood. What a fantastic wife I have! Merry Christmas everyone and happy sawing in the year to come.

Brag Forum / Christmas Napkin Holder
« on: December 25, 2013, 01:47:56 am »
Got home from Christmas Eve Service and decided to draw this up and make it. So after drawing it up I cut the pieces and then set to work with my wife helping me. This napkin holder is a last minute gift for her mom. Some people last minute shop, I'd rather be in the shop last minute than in a store fighting over over priced things.

The Coffee Shop / Ornament Exchange
« on: December 21, 2013, 11:31:53 pm »
I had some family and friends over for a bit of Christmas cheer. As they looked over my tree many commented on the ornaments. I have received some nice ones this year as well as the one I got from last year. I hope everyone else is enjoying the ornament exchange as much as I have. I am not sure if the person I gave to this year got his yet, hope so.

Well for everyone on this site, Merry Christmas. God bless to all and a good and happy New Year.

Brag Forum / A Christmas Gift Nativity
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:06:08 pm »
I made this from a few scrap pieces of Oak. Going to send this to my Dad and Step Mom for Christmas. I can say this year I honestly understand the concept behind St Nicholas being a poor man who made gifts from wood. This past year I have been unemployed or on low income. I have been able to make so many nice gifts for people without buying any new wood.

The Coffee Shop / Got my ornaments today
« on: December 12, 2013, 11:07:38 pm »
Had a nice surprise in the mail today. Thanks to R Peterson who sent me 2 nice ornaments. I love crosses, so the cross with PEACE was fantastic. My wife and mother in law saw the carol singers. They are now debating which is nicer. I initially took pictures of them off the tree, but then decided these are nicer pictures.

Pattern Requests. / Light Switch Cover
« on: November 21, 2013, 11:19:55 pm »
I like the light switch cover patterns on the pattern page, but they are only for a single switch room. My dad has a double switch at his house. I wanted to make him the cowboy on horse pattern, but need one for a double switch. Anyone have a double switch pattern?

A few weeks ago I drew up and made some pilgrim people. Today I made 2 more and added a base. This is a gift for my mother-in-law.

Brag Forum / More Thanksgiving Stuff
« on: November 03, 2013, 01:45:38 am »
I love to look online and see the kind of things other people make. Then I take ideas I like and make my own pattern. I started off with some Pilgrims which I posted a few weeks ago. Today I added this Turkey. I think I need to rework the head so it is more upright than outstretched.

The Coffee Shop / Don't Lose your Last Name
« on: November 01, 2013, 01:23:01 pm »
An Arizona Highway Patrol officer stops a Harley for traveling faster than the posted speed limit. He starts the stop by asking the biker his name. 'Fred,' he replies. 'Fred what?' the officer asks. 'Just Fred,' the man responds. The officer, in a good mood, thinks he might just give the biker a break, and write him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer presses him for the last name. The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it. The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. 'Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?' The biker replies, 'It's a long story, so stay with me. I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD. After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through School, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD. Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am Just Fred.' The officer walked away in tears, laughing.

The Coffee Shop / The head of the family
« on: October 30, 2013, 01:07:05 am »
Learned something in church this past week. We were talking about roles in marriage. Of course most church goers know that the man is the head of the family. What many may not know is that the woman is the neck of the family. Now before you take offense to this keep in mind that it is the neck that turns the head the way it wants to go.  ;)

Brag Forum / Snowman Snowflakes
« on: October 30, 2013, 12:41:22 am »
I stack cut these snowman snowflakes 5 at a time. Painted them white and added a layer of sparkle white. They are about 3 inches across. The pattern is one I made simply by cutting a paper snowflake and then copying it on my printer.
