Brag Forum / Fundraising scoreboard
« on: May 30, 2014, 09:20:36 am »
My daughter designed a scoreboard for our the fundraising for our new church.
family project:
we did a lot of the building together, great to do so.
I did the cutting.
my wife sanded them on the belt-sander.
Daughter did burn in all the numbers
daughter did all the drilling and both of us glued and screwed it all together.
all poplar and pine scrap wood from pallets.

it's a push/slide system, push the "0" up and the "1"will come out at the top.
put the "1" on the spot of the "0" and you can make and add any number.

Brag Forum / Signposts just a little scrolling....
« on: May 24, 2014, 10:59:32 am »
I made two signposts for a Youth theatre group.
they have two plays this year and for both I made a signpost.
(my daughter plays in one of them!!)
the crew of last years play:

both signposts are made from  scrap-wood pine and poplar ply.
both had to have a touch of scroll....   ;)
Blue/white one is made out of old transportation pallets.
the other is mode from old garden post and 1,5" oak slabs finished in BLO.
words are printed on paper and glued on.
base has 4 wheels so they can push that thing around during different parts of the play.

General Scroll Saw Talk / money raising project with key chains
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:33:02 pm »
Hi there,

We do have several money raising actions in our church because we need money to build a new church building.
we have to leave our present rent building due to law and regulations...  :-\
So we need a new one and all people are starting special actions for raising money.
I offered to make key chains, ? 1,- per character. (shipping not included ;) )
Have 4 orders in 2 days now, first name was 5 characters so the first ? 5,- ($6,85) is in the pocket ;)
I know it's not the big bugs, but all bits help right?
With mothers- and fathers day coming up I bet I'll sell a couple more.

In behave of our congregation I'll thank steve for the key chain software!!  ;D

Brag Forum / Bible verse plaque Phil 4:7
« on: April 28, 2014, 03:32:44 am »
Made a bible verse plaque of Phil 4:7 in Dutch.
Encouragement gift for an ill acquaintance from church.

Translation:
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

Used 5/32 birch plywood, stained the backer in oak color.
Did a stack cut and have three now, so I made different backer shapes, on one you can see the dove fly off.
Just curious which shape you like best?

Only need a few sprays of lacquer, but good enough to show you guys and gals.
pictures are a bit blurry , made with old cellphone..

Pattern had some breath taken cuts in it.

The Coffee Shop / The Passion Music special in Holland
« on: April 17, 2014, 02:14:22 pm »
In Holland we have 15 TV station or so, a few of them are Christian broadcast stations.
the biggest is called EO and they organize an event called "The Passion" for several years now.
they do this together with an other Roman catholic broadcast station.
In The Passion they play the story of Jesus last days and it's played by non Christian famous Dutch singers/artist.
they sing common Dutch pop/hit songs know by all people, the hit numbers from the radio.
the special thing is that they select the chorus and songs carefully.
in example a love song from a woman to a man can be used for Maria singing to her son Jesus how she loves him.
a song about fear will be sang by Jesus before arrested, and so on...
I don't know how the manage, but these worldly songs seems to fit in the gospel story perfectly!
and because the musicians are famous Dutch artists thousands of people will come and watch it.
it's on national TV on prime time 2030 tonight.
while the gospel story is told by songs and drama a procession with a big lighted cross will be carried true the city to the stage and will arrive around the end of the show.

you can watch it live on internet:

http://www.eo.nl/evenementen/thepassion/

probably not easy to understand in Dutch....

some pictures from past years:

And the final video "just take my hand, don't ask to much, you can't do it alone"

for me a great TV night, watching this on White Thursday or Maundy Thursday, or how it's called in your country.

Wish You all a great Easter weekend, with not only eggs and bunnies ;)
