General Scroll Saw Talk / Ordering baldes
« on: May 01, 2016, 09:59:06 pm »
I just tried ordering blades from the Mike's Scrollsaw Workshop site and got an error message, has anyone else had the same problem? Or have they shut down the ordering from that site which wouldn't surprise me.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Tung oil and glue
« on: March 04, 2016, 02:12:08 pm »
I have cut a 10 inch clock face from red oak and the numbers from walnut as well as a wolf scene from a Sheila Landry pattern. would like to bring out the oak and walnut grain. If I coat them with tung oil can I glue the scene on the tung oil? Any opinion appreciated.
Thanks Tom

General Scroll Saw Talk / Murphy's Law

Anytime sometime can go wrong it will, first craft show of the year coming up on Saturday, three more projects to finish and the threads on the blade clamp on my EX21 give up tonight. I have been so busy I haven't posted for a very long time even though I do check it every once in a while. So now I get time to read all the posts since I last checked here, and I get to play with the new laptop I bought last July and have only turned on once since I got it, while I wait for the parts. So I guess for every negative action there is a positive reaction. Now if the craft sale will pay for the parts and my tables I will be satisfied just so long as I don't get asked for any rush orders. Hope everyone had a great holiday in December and your new year is progressing as you hoped.

General Scroll Saw Talk / FD Blades
« on: April 26, 2015, 10:47:45 pm »
Where is everyone getting their flying Dutchman blades? I was ordering from Mike but as he has sold his business where do I go now. I was down to my last 2 dozen blades and ordered from Wooden Teddy bear but couldn't believe the shipping fees. Mike charged me $3 to ship to Manitoba and I got them in 8 days. Wooden Teddy bear wants $12.95 in shipping fees, now I wait to see when I get them.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Finish on walnut
« on: March 04, 2015, 10:34:13 pm »
I cut the Steve wood's pattern scroll box out of walnut with red oak front and back. It looks good but now I am unsure what to use as a finish. I usually use lemon oil with a poly top coat but find this always turns walnut to a very dark color and I would like to keep it as light as possible. Any suggestions?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Bandsaw
« on: February 23, 2015, 09:27:40 pm »
My bandsaw is getting to be a pain in the neck so I think it is time for a new one. I have looked at reviews of various saws and all seem to have the same type of reviews with some good and some saying never buy this one. Any recommendations?

Pattern Requests. / Shawl Pins
« on: December 07, 2014, 09:57:52 am »
Does anyone have a pattern for shawl pins? Yesterday a lady that does sells knitting at the market asked me if I could make shawl pins, she is even willing to sell them for me. I never even heard of them until then. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Thank you
« on: December 06, 2014, 10:55:48 pm »
I don't post often but read all the new posts almost every day. I would like to thank first Steve for all the great daily patterns as well as the ones in his catalogue  and secondly all the posters here for their tips I have read over the past year. With all this help I managed to sell over $600 worth of items at the local farmers market in the past three Saturdays, and have had people request I come back for the next weeks leading up to Christmas. Thanks to all of you.

Introduce Yourself. / Hello Form Manitoba Canada
« on: October 18, 2014, 01:40:54 pm »
Hi, I am Tom, I have been lurking on the forum for about a year and decided it was time to introduce myself. I have had a saw since Christmas 2012, a gift from one of my sons. Since then I have discovered that this could be an expensive hobby. I work part time so spent some money and upgrade twice, now I have an Excalibur and a dewalt 788. Now I found you can't have a good saw without a press drill, rough lumber is cheaper so I got a used planer. Too much dust in the basement so I remodeled and insolated my big garden shed into a workshop. I spend at least 2 hours every evening at my saw and now waiting for the Christmas craft shows to start in our area.
