I looked through the parts diagram and parts list for the 788 and did not find any spring.  Looked twice.

Very good work.

I shy away from MDF because it is hard on the blades and I do not like the dust if produces when it is cut.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Using spray shellac
« on: June 21, 2021, 10:47:37 pm »
I use the same shellac.  It is my go to finish. I do not use BLO.  To smooth the shellac I use a small piece of a paper bag.(The ones the grocery store used before plastic).  Use it just like sand paper.  It is the same as a fine grit sand paper.
220 or finer grit sand paper is also good to smooth it.  But I like the paper bag better.

I did some reading on the 2 speed motor.  I read that the 2 speed motor has two windings.  One for the low speed and one for the high speed.  It will only run on one of those two selections.  It cannot be changed to variable speed.

But, if you invert the coupon code you can purchase the saw for 1% of the listed price.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: scroll saw set screw
« on: March 06, 2021, 09:41:53 am »
The set screw probably has Locktite on it.  It will take extra pressure to get it to loosen.  Maybe some heat (hair dryer maybe) will help to loosen it.  Try to hold the blade holder firmly when you apply pressure to the set screw.  Maybe remove the holder from the saw so you can get a better grip on it.  I use a medium strength locktite.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Neck pain

Yes. Two things I did well, actually three.

I use a real comfortable office chair to sit in.  (Goodwill store $10.00) [I am not cheep but I do like a good bargain)When cutting every once in a while just lean back and stretch some.  Also, do not sit too long at a time.  Stand up, move around a bit.

Built stand that lets saw sit at an angle so I do not have to bend my head down as much.

Relax when cutting.  Tension can also bring on the pain.
