Ask Steve a question. / picture post
« on: June 05, 2015, 09:18:59 am »
I have tried to post pics of some of my projects but the site tells me the pic is too large.  I have posted the same pic on other sites without any problem.  I also have no idea how to change the pic size.

Masking tape over the cut line will let you get a clean cut.

Very nicely done.  I'm glad to see someone using oak as it often gets a bad rap.

Sorry to hear about your accident.  You might want to get a metal guard for that finger as I found that surely helped.

Without a doubt, he was one of the most underrated talents of the decades due to the management that never allowed him to develop his talent but looked only at the financial benefits.

Gina hasn't been around since the Free 4 All Forum closed.  Haven't seen Jay P posting for a very long time.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Mike's Workshop

Wouldn't you know it, I was ready to place an order yesterday.  I was going to try the blade fastening knobs that Mike had on his site as looked as though they would help my arthritic fingers.  Looked on WTB and didn't see them on their site so don't know if they will stock them or not.
Can't blame Mike as at his age, he is entitled to some retirement.  I had the opportunity to meet him a few times at some of the scrolling conventions and you couldn't find a nicer guy.  He will definitely be missed.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: trivet
« on: March 10, 2015, 09:24:09 am »
I have made quite a few trivets over the years.  Almost always in hardwood although did do a few in aromatic cedar.  For a finish, I dipped them in mineral oil, then let them drip dry.  When completely dry, I buffed them with a brown paper bag to give them a sheen.  I have one on my table that has been in use for over 10 yrs with no problem.  I found out however, that the ones I gifted tend to get hung on the wall rather than used.

Wish I could trade places for a day or so.  Your situations sounds great to me.  I am a 24 hr care giver for my 95 yr old mother and that doesn't leave a lot of time for me.  Did escape for a couple of hours yesterday and made a run to the hardwood store.  Got a sheet of BB, some 1/4" aspen, 3/4" soft maple, 1/4" oak, and some basswood.

Very nice Marg.  I especially like seeing the green grass instead of my white yard.

I couldn't agree more as Sheila and Keith do so much for the scrolling community.  I also follow Sheila's blog on Lumberjocks.  Along with Steve and the rest of the community that give so much, it makes you realize that maybe there is hope for us after all to know that there are good and giving people.

I understand the roller coaster and also the desire for time in the shop.  My shop is entirely too cold and I'm still getting used to the new leg braces for my knees.  Here's hoping that things improve for both of us as I have a Mar 6 deadline.

You might try Smithwood Products in Fort Worth.

I'll third that as this has become one of my best go to sites.
