Ask Steve a question. / Pegas #2

My Pegas #2 blades snap as soon as I try and put any tension on.  I don't even get a chance to start a cut.  I am using a Pegas saw, so easing the tension is very difficult and time consuming.  I've even bought new blades in hope that I had a bad batch: no.  My #1s and #3s are not a problem and work perfectly. What could be my issue?  I think I will buy some Olson or Dutchman blades to see if it is me or the blade.

Any suggestions?

For some strange reason I can not use Pegas #2 blades.  As soon as I put a bit of tension on the blade, even before actual cutting, it snaps.  I'm using a Pegas saw.  I'm having no problem with #1 or #3 blades.  I use 2s rarely, but it is frustrating for me.  I can accomplish the rare cuts with a #1, but I have to cut dead slow. 

Is anyone else having that problem?

General Scroll Saw Talk / finish coatings flamble

I'm going to cut the sconce from Steve's newsletter today.  What finish coating would be safe for that sort of project with open flames?  I like to use tung oil, but I'm concerned it could possibly cause a fire hazard.  What about mineral oil, linseed oil or just polyurethane?
