Title: Basic Patterns
Post by: Mark on August 21, 2017, 07:12:58 pm
To all the talented pattern designers here.
For the most basic of patterns which is better Gimp or Inkscape?
I cut fretwork and would like to try my luck at making some of my own patterns, Either by free modified clipart or what ever rattles around in my gray matter.
Just birds, animals both wild and domestic a few landscape is what I would like to try. And convert some  photos of are camping trips into patterns.
Thank you very much.

Gimp is the more popular program used to take a picture and convert to a fretwork pattern.  Most portraits are done with a program like Gimp that will let you posterize and then manipulate the pixels.

Inkscape is used with vector images (like clipart) to make patterns of objects.

There are instruction on both these programs on Scroll Saw Village in their university section.
