Title: Hand cut fret saw
Post by: Dakota Saw Dust on June 22, 2017, 05:22:38 pm
Saw your daily post with links to hand fret work equipment.  If I'm not mistaken only pin type blades work will work, meaning larger entry hole. The old timers really had it hard.
I'm enclosing a photo of an old coping saw I made Mike Moorlach as a gag. I hot melted the electric cord into the handle.  Cheers  Brian

Brian, handheld fret saws will take pinless blades the same as any electric saw. In fact the handheld were around before treadle and electric machines so they made the machines to fit already available blades i.e. 5" pinless. The hand held saws that take pinned blades are coping saws not fretsaws.
happy scrolling

Steve - thanks for the update. Question - In those old days, where there both coping saws w/pins & fret saws w/ pinles blades? I am talking of days before machines, etc.  Cheers Brian
