u never talk abut the delta 40-694 . I have it and i believe that it's far better than the dewalt 788. it's the smoothest machine I've ever use. I been scrolling since the 80's .

I have never used one, fact, I have never even seen one, but on the forums I frequent, the owners of them speak very highly of them. I have not read of people owning them having the motor problems that I read about with DeWalt. Course that maybe that there are so many more DeWalt owners that Delta owners.

I recently purchased the Delta 40-694 and really like it. I have never had anything but a Delta, so it is hard for me to compare. But this one run so much better than any saw I have ever had.

I own a Delta 40-690, I know that's not the one you are talking about, but the motor (+/- $300.00) burned out and I tried factory service. You may know that Delta has gone out of scroll saw business and DeWalt seems to be out also. So the question is what saw is available in the $500 dollar range that is fixable, available, and in business.

After a lot of thought (which is very hard for me) I have decided that buying a new saw is not the answer. However on Amazon I was able to purchase a reconditioned Delta 40-694 saw for $270.00 delivered and in only two days. A motor, on line, sells for $300 and no way will I spend over $1000.00 for a saw that may not be in production in a couple of years. I figure that most of the parts from the 40-690 will be useable on the 694 and I like the way the Delta saw works. After hearing how many companies are discontinuing making Scroll Saws I am wondering if we are a dying breed. Although I have not made enough money to maintain my current rate of poverty, Enough has been saved to pay for the saw. And the hours of enjoyment are priceless. About 90% of what I make is either donated to people or military recreational facilities. My house is still overloaded with stuff made in my shop. So, as long as possible, with Steve's help, I will continue to saw.

Hegner parts are available for my 1986 saw. Not cheap but available. They do have a new one for under $1000 I think.

Am well pleased with my 40-694. I take it apart every year and grease it. Have not spent a dime repairing the saw, but it did wear out one foot switch.

Very pleased with my 3 year old 40694. Not aware of any lack of availability. Great saw for the price.
