Title: Egret Intarsia

Hi,
Here's my latest Intarsia project of an Egret, Finished size is 24" x 20" x 1" and I used Pine (stained white for the body) Mahogany for the water... Oak for the Beak and grass along with Walnut for the legs. I have added a frame made from Pine stained with Rustins Dark Oak, the pattern is from Tim Rogers at www.intarsia.com.

Really nicely done Brian.  I love to see good intarsia however I don't have the patience for it.  Thanks for sharing this with us, my mother would love this one. :)

Beautiful work!
Is that actually a stain or is it painted white?
I'm not being judgemental, I would just like to be able
to stain wood that white and still have some grain show through,

Hi,
Its actually 2 coats of thinned acrylic white paint, you can still see the grain slightly but doesn't show up very well on the photo. I tried the white stain before and it looked horrible so this is the only way i could get a bright white as needed for an Egret.  I have been experimenting with white Corian for a future project (some large teeth) and that looks great so although its not wood it might be a good substitute for white parts in patterns for those of us who cannot get Aspen wood etc?  It also cuts easy on the scollsaw plus sands and polishes up lovely (you can even add fine detail to it using your Dremel etc) If you haven't tried Corian its worth buying a small bit off Ebay to experiment with 8-)

Ps what about a full white Egret made from Corian?  now that would be lovely and no painting involved
