Title: pattern making software

I am looking for software to make patterns word art etc. I am using a mac I have tried using inkscape but can't seem to get it up and running. I would just like to know what other pattern makers are using. I was thinking about buy a lower priced PC for this as their are more choices of software any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Mike.
I am using Adobe Illustrator cc, it is a great program to make patterns in. I have a Macbook pro and this program are super on it.
Yes you have to pay a little every month for it but i think it worth it.
You can do the most, just search the internet for vector pic or silhouettes and use them in Illustrator, it converts them easily to patterns.

Hvae you tried gimp? You can find a decent windows laptop for around 400 bucks but can also get a basic desktop for that, might also check pawn shops for a windows pc can find some good deals, I found my stepdaughter a almost new laptop for 200 bucks at a pawnshop
