I was wondering what is a good replacement bulb for the DW 7881 worklight for the dw788 scroll saw?
On dewalt website they said to replace it with the brand and model number Sylvania Bulb model number 25T8N/BL I have try looking at all the local stores and no luck and some of the sale people don't know what the heck it is nor they have it in stock.
bugs the heck out of me. Some people told me its a tube light.... 25 watt bulb

I bought replacement bulbs at Lowe's. Just a standard 25 w bulb. Works great.

Bought mine in Wal-Mart. Same thing. Comes two in a pkg.

I'm just telling you guys what I have read in the manual. The bulb that came with it is a applicance bulb. And it tells you to not to use a standard house bulb. Risk of fire if you do.
type S 25 watt blub 120 volts.

I have been using a "standard" 25 watt, small base bulb, sold at MANY stores, for a long time. Works fine, lasts a long time. Won't rust, bust, corrode and it's hermetically sealed. And a bunch cheaper than the specialty "appliance" bulb.
Do as thee will.

I get mine at Ace Hardware Store. Part number 3019817. Description "Accent Floodlight" 25W....1 R14 bulb.
They seem to work very well and last a long time (a year so far).

I don't have a dewalt but when the light on my Hitachi burnt out I replaced it with a 25 w appliance bulb that I found at every store. The first bulb lasted about a day, and the second lasted about 2 minuets, I figured out that the vibration of the saw was shaking the filament out. I believe they make a rough service appliance bulb that would work, but I used the light not working as an excuse to get a nice worklight.

Take a look at the attached chart. The bulb for the Dewalt 788 is an "intermediate" style base, circled on the chart. Any bulb with that style base will fit and work safely on your saw as long as that bulb uses no more than 25 watts. Don't concern yourself with the "Type S" labelling, what you want is the "intermediate" base. The wattage is what can cause a fire, such as using a 100w bulb in a 40w fixture. The 100w bulb would generate too much heat for the fixture to handle.
To me, a 25w bulb just isn't bright enough, so I switched the supplied 25w incandescent bulb with a 13w compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb. A 13w CFL puts out light equivalent to a 60w incandescent bulb. So, for less power consumption (13w vs. 25w) you get almost 3 times as much light. However, that still wasn't bright enough for me, so I've put two swing arm style lights over my saw, each loaded with a 23w CFL bulb putting 5000k light. The 23w CFL each put out light equivalent to a 100w incandescent bulb, and at 5000k, its nice bright, white, light. With both lights on, the table of my saw looks like an operating table! Some might not like it that bright, but I love it!

I have try that light and it only last for about two days. I took it back and got my money today.
back to the drawing board again. yep when that bulb that came with the worklight crack on me and broke on me when i was taking it out. So I guess i'll just have to get a 25 watt 120 watt appliance builb. on the wqrning it says Do not use a stander household bulb. I have found a 25 watt bulb at lowes but i'm going back there today and take another look at it. Then i'll do what judy done and might get one at walmart. thanks again everyone for the help.

I found a great replacement bulb for the DW7881 scrollsaw. It is a LED bulb (E17 base of course) and it fits perfectly. There is no heat coming from the bulb (the most important feature for me after burning myself a couple of times on the black reflector). It is also twice as bright as the original incandescent bulb, and according to the specs, it will use about 10% of the energy. I bought it at Amazon.com. It is called the ChiChin Lighting LED E17 Reflector R14 4 watts 30 Lighting Degree Spotlight Bulb Pure Day White 5850-6000k. They sell different "k" rated bulbs. Stick to the highest "k" rating you can get if you want a bright light. I love this light! It illuminates very well!

I haven't had to replace the bulb yet on mine, but I was going to suggest an LED light. I have two LED overhead light bars in the workshop and the light is so much better. I agree with Rob - find the highest "K" rating you can.

Here is my 2 cents worth, I read several reviews on the Dewalt scroll saw light, and decided not to get it, as I had been using a magnifier light with my old saw, figure I could use it on my new one, either a stand or a mount of some kind, this is what I came up with, this is version 1, working on the 2nd ver. in between projects, only get to work a bit in the evening, as its outside on my back porch and even in Texas can get cold out there.
Ver 2 will use a thicker piece of aluminum angle and some longer screws to mount to the saw, but I used the mounting holes for the factory option.
