Made from a plywood called ApplePly that was gotten from my local Lowes. This ply has a very good maple face and birch plys. As you can see there are very few if any voids. This is the US's answer to Baltic Birch Ply.

The hex box turned out great, I've never heard of ApplePly before, but looks like it's a good substitute for Baltic Birch.
-
Great design on the box, it really looks good, looks like I'm going to have to check out Lowes for ApplePly, Thanks for the headsup.
-
:D :D Looks sharp! How did U finish it? thanx for showing.
-
I sealed the box with tung oil and let that dry. Then top coated it with bullseye shellac. Everything is the natural color of the wood no staining done.

Hey DW, nice box. Dumb question. It looks like you did 6 layers. No matter how good I cut, the inside layers are never exact. How do you sand down the inside cuts to make them exact? I've tried several methods and it is always awkward. I always get there, but what a pain.
-
There are indeed 6 layers but if you cut carefully and then work with sets of 2 layers at a time then it becomes much easier to get them smooth enough. Also if you have a wood carving chisle D8/7 which is a u shape then you can get into the slot to clean up the fit.

Thanks, I didn't think to use a chisel. Will give it a go on the next one.

DW is that your own design or is it available somewhere?

It is mine but here is the pattern for it.
