Title: When things go wrong
Post by: Keefie on February 17, 2012, 06:30:10 pm
Everyone posts pictures of their beautifull work here, so I thought I would share a picture with you. I had completed Steves Gone Fishin key rack and had put on a coat of Boiled Linseed Oil and thinners. When it had dried I took it down from its hook and went to spray a coat of laquer on it, but when walking across the shop, my leg gave way and I fell over (again lol) I received a small bruise on the cheekbone area and my latest work suffered too as you can see in the picture.

Rats on the bad luck.   Would a bit of glue fix it?   Shame to toss a fish like that....

I'm going to try to glue it tomorrow Al, and possibly try to make a backer plate to glue to it too for extra strength if I can. It's got to be worth a try.

Dang it man. Sorry for your luck. If it is for your personnel use I would try to fix it. Glue and maybe a little reinforcing on the back.  :(

A backer plate would be perfect for reinforcing.  ;)

Been there done that.... several times... looks like it could be fairly easily repaired.

That's what I call a "dammit Dan"! It looks like you should be able to fix it. In my shop I have a "shelf of shame" for such things!
BTW, Nice cutting!

The wood can be fixed, but I am just glad you didn't get hurt any more that you did.  I know al about falling, and it hurts.

Nice cutting!  Tough luck on taking a spill though.  Glad you're okay and the only thing hurt here is pride!  I think a dark backer, around 1/4" larger than the piece would compliment it nicely and give it the needed strength for the repair!  Let us know what you come up with!

That sucks! It happens. Its amazing that you can work all day finishing a project. And then accidentally destroy it in a blink of an eye..

It's fixed, still needs a sanding and a finish around the edge. I perfered it without the backer board, but at least it's not wasted now.

Still looks great Keefie!  I sympathize.  I have a knee like that from when a car hit me when I was riding my motorcycle.  Just kinda folds up on me unexpectedly.  Glad you didn't get too beat up!

I feel for you. I've been to that point of completion and done similar things ( falling, dropping, etc.). I hope you can save this and not turn it into designer firewood.
