My box wasn't wrapped in plastic. But I got it a long time ago.
Is the warranty worth the savings?

I did a similar thing, bought it then didn't use it for about ten years. Turned out to be one of the lemon saws. Dewalt basicly told me 'tough luck'.
I still have the saw but dont use it much. Looking for an EX 21 to replace it with that can do what I want.

I wonder if you asked he would send you a S/N # to find out when that saw was made..
