Title: some of work as a newbie
Post by: Tomsunnu on January 26, 2012, 07:09:05 am
hi
I was advised to avoid using MDF(harmful for health) but i had purchased some earlier and wanted to finish of the stock by making some stuff quickly, please have a a look at my work, exactly 2 months and a half since started & self taught ,new person to the saw  ;D

I will be starting to look for alternate wood for scrolling and other projects in my city.
Until then please bear with me as the projects are not framed in the proper fashion.

Thank you all

regards
Tomsunnu

I am not an expert, but I am not sure I agree with the MDF being a health hazard, I have quite a few plans recommending using MDF for various projects, and have not seen any warnings regarding health issues outside of the obvious precautions (use a mask when ANY dust is in the air, MDF, walnut, pine, cat, dog, etc) and build or buy a filter for the shop.

The scroll looks nice and a pattern I have not seen.  Keep up the good work and enjoy the time.

Very nicely done.  A using a dust mask when cutting would not hurt.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Congratulations for your work, are very well done.
No matter if it looks good mdf.
I started like you, using the same material.
But the mdf is very versatile and easy to work compared to solid wood.
With your talent you can begin to cut plywood and you'll notice a big difference.

I use mdf if something needs paintings or as a practice for something I haven't tried before.  Great work, well done.

Nice cutting. I'm glad you can find inspirations where you are located.

MDF is no more toxic than many other woods we scrollers use on a daily basis. There are better purposes for MDF and solid or plywood makes a better presentation. If it was a health problem, here in the United States would be a label that would read something like this.

"This product is known in the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects among infants".

Use what you have and enjoy the hobby. If you feel ready to switch to a different medium, then do it. Cutting hardwood vs. MDF is just a materials difference, not an abiliy difference.

nice work, and with MDF a dust mask is a necessity not an option, the dust from MDF is dangerous.
