Title: baltic birch ply
Post by: normcat on January 15, 2012, 04:20:20 pm
First post after introducing myself, thanks for the welcome. My first ( but by no means my last ) question is to the UK guys on this forum. Where do you get decent ply at a reasonable cost? Based in Scotland I hav'nt found a local supplier that sells smaller than 8 / 4 sheets and usually have to order more than one. Found great ply but only came in 50 sheet pallets which is a tad expensive!

hi, I get mine from ebay, hobbies sell it there, 610 by 305mm are ?4.45 with ?6.95 P+P ( postage is for any number of sheets ) the more pieces you order the cheaper it works out. I have ordered a full sheet of birch ply from our local supplier, but when I cut it, it had voids in it, the ply from hobbies is good quality and I havent had a bad bit yet.

Hi Norrie, I would go with keefie's advice. Hobbies stuff is good. Don't get it from the diy sheds as it will have more voids than the government.

Thanks for the replies. Never thought about Hobbies although I knew about them supplying all sorts of craft materials. Sometimes don't see the wood for the trees lol.
Will give them a try later today.
